i have an 88 rx7 im goin to in IT how many point cage can i run as many as i want or is ther a limit

Well to start, the minimum number of mounting points you can use is the traditional six: front down tubes, main hoop, and rear bars. You may use up to eight points, but the additional two are mandated to be foot protection bars running forward from the front down tubes. Additionally, you can run as many bars as you want to the mounting point, provided the mounting point meets the maximum or 100 sq inches or less. The reasoning behind this is that the mounting plate is what it considered the mounting point, no any one specific bar. You are also allowed to run as many bars as you like in between each other, provided they meet the rules for tubing size and don't add an additional mount.

Did you get all that? I know it's a bit confusing.

For further ideas, check out the cages on my webpage, C. Ludwig's, or Silkworm's:

Diyman,

Um, I'm not sure that's legal.

no, I'm 100% certain that's not legal.

Your downtubes must end at the pad, not at the bar.

The inner X braces, not sure what size tubing you used, but if it's smaller than minimum tubing size/thickness, you're screwed there too.. Even though the tubes aren't required, if you have a tube, it must meet minimum tubing sizes for your car's weight

Finally, you don't have the required diagonal running from drivers left at the main hoop down to the drivers right..

Here's my cage:

Chris nailed the rules pretty well, another resource I'd point you to:

Don't take this the wrong way....buy a rule book!

Looks like the bottom bar is welded to the floorpan........ this could be a problem, but then again, it IS an E car and might be argued into a logbook but I wouldn't be willing to try.

how big can the pads be 100sq in is big? also what size tubing do i need to get my cage made of? were goin to use DOM. thanks

Silkworm 12-29-02 10:04 PM

Yall, to be IT legal, the pads can only be 100 sq in total area.

You need to get the rules book for the tubing size (and I don't have mine handy, I'm moving right now). I can tell you I run 1.75x.120 DOM, but I know that's at least one size larger than minimum required.
