road racing and the power FC commander
Does the commander need to be mounted in order to pass tech?
Mine is velcroed to the dash and doesnt move...will i pass TECH inspections? |
You can try, but most tracking tech guys want it securely fastened, and velcro really doesn't count. You can ask them if you can duct tape it down..

Velcro does not pass tech when I'm working. Take your commander down and remove it or put it into your glove box. Removal is best.

The FC commander is very light, and if the velcro is securely mounted, ie the adhesive is really stuck on both the mount and the dash, then I'd say yes, it should. It will be a judgement call from the tech inspector, but I'd bet you could argue a good position that the FC commander won't go anywhere. If the FC Commander does, you've got bigger problems, than the FC Commander flying around, like perhaps crumpled metal around you and the instructor?!

I've seen long zipties to the glove box work, I've also see people ziptie to the heater vents (dunno how comfy tech guys are with that, but I've seen it done)
G'luck. PaulC |
Zip-tying it to something solid will work. I understand where Manny is coming from about velcro... but I've seen heat make velcro adhesive come loose. I don't mean heat from the engine or exhaust, I mean heat from the ambient temps.
As my Daddy used to say, "Don't be a dumbass". Lock the component down and be safe. You owe it to yourself and to the others on track to eliminate anything that can fly around during an off. It is the rule for a reason. If monitoring temps is THAT important, get a gauge that reads highest setting (Nordskog, for example) or get a datalogit. |
If temp is the concern, you shouldn't have overheating problems unless you have cooling system problems. At 60+mph, the airflow should be sufficient. So if that's the case, just stick in the glovebox. That's what I do. Plus, when I'm running hot laps, I'm more focused on who I'm going to catch ... ;)

Thankfully, I run my own events @ Putnam Park, so MY Power FC Commander STAYS LOL :)
