Back again... am I the Race Forum Whore or what?

Okay, ACT released their new ACT Xact line of flywheels this spring. For the FC they offer:

Streetlite (13.9 lbs.) $225 and the Prolite (9.9 lbs.) $250

The counterweights are listed as $150 extra.

What weight flywheel are you using?
What would you suggest for combo tracks (combination of both fast straights and all sorts of corners, not one more then the other).
Can I use the (if there is one?) factory counterbalance with one of these new ACT units? Or is it a must buy?

I emailed them but no reply yet and though some of you could help out.

I have a 94 FD that is used mostly on the street. I have a 12 lb Flywheel/counterweight. It works nicely on the street, and for autocrossing. I expect that it would be fine for road racing.

It is likely that the counterweight they will give you is the Madza factory unit. In addition, the weight of the counterweight is probably included in the weights you listed.

If your car will only be driven on the track, I would get the lighter one. If you drive it on the street, the heavier one would probably be better. You should check out what other manufacturers offer. A 12 lb combo seems to be a nice compromise. I like mine from SR motorsports.

I use the ACT Prolite on my FD. I absolutely LOVE it on the track. On the street, it takes a little bit of adjustment to get used to. But once I re-learned how to drive my car, then it has been no problem. I'm glad that I chose the prolite, and I would never consider going back to stock.

Quartermaster cro-molly flywheel and twin plate clutch(7.25"). clutch is never an issue. blew 2 solid ACT clutchs and a centerforce in my years before quartermaster. all together about the same price but loads more durable. not suited for the street but this is the racing section ya know :)

What about the 10.1lbs flywheel that is used with a QuarterMaster 5.5 triple plate clutch, I belive that Guru offers this. The clutch is 16 lbs vs. the stock 44lbs (at least that is what their site says). Also less inertia since the diameter is smaller.

I believe the GURU piece is for the turbo trans,if memory serves me. that setup would work great but the carbon 5.5 clutch is more expensive and the 7.25 will last alot longer. the 5.5 is the ultimate setup of strength and light weight.

Talk to Tim at mazda comp.. for Evil Aviator's (20B Moderator) 20B FC I ordered the Quartermaster from Tim.. at QM's reccomendation. It is a double disk 5.5 with a 3.5 LB flywheel.
Not looking forward to trying to drive it on the street.. but on the track it should be more fun. :D

It is splined for a N/A tranny.. because we were going to go with a PBS or variant. As it is we are going to send the clutches back and get ones splined for a T-56 instead of the N/A FC gearbox.

Actually, I have weighed them both and the weights listed are for just the flywheel. The counterweight you'll get is an OEM automatic tranny fd counterweight.

I have an old (like from 5 years ago) shane racing light flywheel, which i weighed at 9 pounds. I'm sure it's rebadged, but so far haven't been able to track down where it originated from.

I have roadraced my fd quite a few times and loved my old combo of act street strip (with factory disk) and the sr flywheel. I've since moved onto a new cryo'ed spec sprung 6 puck with lightened pressure plate, and we'll see how i like this setup.....
