Redline: Time Attack!

REDLINE AND MODIFIED MAG TEAM UP FOR AMERICA'S FIRST
OFFICIALLY-SANCTIONED TIME ATTACK SERIES

Your toughest opponent is not the smack-talkin' punk from the other car club.
It's not the smug rich guy with the expensive modifications who won't stop
bragging. It's not the old fart who's been "doing this since you were in diapers".
At the REDLINE/Modified Mag TIME ATTACK Series, the battle for bragging
rights is between you and the clock!

In an unprecedented collaboration between two of the strongest forces
in grassroots motorsports, REDLINE Track Events and Modified Magazine
have come together to bring you America's first officially-sanctioned
TIME ATTACK! Coming November 6th to Spring Mountain Motorsports
Ranch's new 4-mile road course, drivers and tuners alike will be among
the first to push the nation's fastest machines to the limit on what
is now the longest road course in the Western United States!

With classes ranging from Street, where daily drivers reign; Modified,
for tuners with more ambitious modification; all the way up to the
no-holds-barred Unlimited class, the REDLINE/Modified Mag TIME ATTACK
Series brings fierce motorsport competition to drivers of any skill
level and tuning budget. Thanks to the advanced timing systems used by
REDLINE Track Events, cars compete one at a time, so drivers get their
chance at pushing their vehicles as hard as they can muster, without
worrying about the dangers inherent in wheel-to-wheel racing.

Car, driver, tarmac, and adrenaline. This is only the first of many
REDLINE/Modified Mag TIME ATTACK events, so visit the website at
http://www.redlinetimeattack.com to keep up to date on the latest
news and tracks, as REDLINE and Modified Mag make motorsport history!

All but unlimited must be registered vehicals(not street legal, just registered) This event is sponsored by the CHP LOL. Even then DOT tires required. Too bad, but I'm not buying DOTs for one event. I wonder what ringer tires exist in Japan, and Europe?

Advan A048R's

Avon A11's - 13-15inch wheels only

I'd say some Hoosier's are best easily available DOT legal option.

I might do this event. I probably won't be competitive as my car is too modified for "street" (because I have an upgraded intercooler) but not modified enough to be competitive in "improved".

I'm going to Spring Mountain this weekend with the PCA and we were SUPPOSED to be the first club to run the new track extension BUT the powers that be decided at the last minute that is was not yet safe to run because some curbing was not finished. Otherwise I'd have an advantage cause I'd have had three days practice on the new track. DARN!

Carl,

I'm sure you probably use some unusual tire size but I have a bunch of Toyo RA1s with about 15% of their life left on them. They'd get you through the event. I don't use them cause I drive to and from the events so I have to make sure I have plenty of tread to spare.

John, thans so much for the offer, I run a 24.5x13x16 slick out back, and a 23.8x11.5x16 slick in front. That is on 16x12, 16x11 respectively. I have some 305-30-18/275-35-18 RA1s off my Supra, but by the time I borrow my buddies 3,000.00 wheels, mount, and dismount tires, etc. I will have a one day 750.00 event. I am Time Trialing with NASA, it is alot of fun. wheel to wheel, fast cars, good drivers etc. Basicly racing without the traffic, although we have strict rules of ettiquete, and it is not considered racing. You would probably be in TTA. Here is a link to the results from their last Willow Springs event http://socal.nasa-tt.com/WS0905.htm. Best times for TTA are ~2:05 @ BW #13CCW, or #1CCW, and 1:29-1:30 for WS. I run in the unlimited class. Anyway, seems strange to run unlimited on street tires, but I guess that is what a time attack is about. I'd like to be in it for the publicity, but it's too far, and too much hassle given my circumstances. Later, Carl

John Magnuson 09-27-05 04:06 PM

Yeah... you're tires are WAY wider than mine. I run 245/45-16

I want to try the NASA time trial series next season. My best time in the full clockwise Buttonwillow configuration is about 2:11 so I'm off the mark. But I'm sure I'd have fun.

What a load of BS! If you want bragging rights, then you have to be good enough to actually beat the above mentioned type of guys!

The seem to have changed the classication rules again. It seems that even a modified RX7 can run in "Street" as long as you have street tires.

Carl Byck 10-03-05 09:07 PM

Time to bolt up some 335 V710s:D

John Magnuson 10-03-05 11:12 PM

"street" tires meaning treadwear of 140 or higher. Time for some shaved 200 tread rating "street" tires.

John Magnuson 11-07-05 03:05 PM

First place Street Class Overall. Hurray for the 7!

I had some pretty good competition from some good drivers in an EVO, STi and well set up 350Z.

A fun time was had by all and I got my first ever trophy. Got to spray the champagne with that "Tarzan" character who won first overall (Japanese celebrity JTC and drift driver).

It was the first time I had ever run at the track on street tires. Took a while to get used to the greatly reduced grip. Someone on this forum once told me that R compounds did a good job of masking the snap oversteer tendancies of the FD. After tracking on street tires I can tell you that person was very wise. I had a few fun 360s but no harm done.

We had another FD and two FCs at the event.

So anyway... hurray for the 7

Carl Byck 11-07-05 03:35 PM

Congratulations, glad you had a good time. Well done. Carl
