Rear End Washer
 

OK now that I have stired the pot with my Miata input shaft problem, I have another.

When cornering real hard at speed with my race rig, I am getting rear end lub in the inside the outside rim. Had a shop look at seals, they are good, mech said ist the corners causeing it to spill.

Where do I weld the washer in the rear end housing to keep the oil from spludging out?

damn, you know your cornering hard when your axle lube is getting squeezed out the side.

I thought you might be talking a bouday. (sp?) ;)
Do you use Mazda outer axle tube seals or some Napa or autozone brand? We used the auto chain parts for a year and just thought the huge slicks and cornering forces causing the leak into the inside of the wheels, much like you say. However after checking around, and ordering the Mazda brand seals, no more leak. For whatever reason I have found the aftermarket, or thie ones I use is not quite right on size. By a very small amount, but enough to work and seal, but leak a little. End result, Mazda seals, a lot less inside rim mess.

Travis I use the mazda parts. Texas world and Texas motor are Full throt in 4th or 5th turn ones. I remember a thread about putting a washer in the rear end and it stops this, looking for help, replaced seal, and afraid of fire on break rotor

I've heard of welding in large washers as a splash guard. You weld them in right where the axles leave the center section and go into the axle tubes to combat gear oil slosh. You need to drill some holes in the bottom the washers to allow any lube that does get by to drain back in though. The reason for doing this mod is to keep the ring gear lubricated during hard cornering, not to stop seal leaks. Sounds like you need some better seals or you've got some wear on the axles where the seals sit. Pull out the axles and have a look, if there is little to no wear, call up Mazdacomp, get some new seals, it's cheap insurance.
