Rain/Wet Track Tyre Setup

Hey guys.

I wanted to get some info regarding track driving in the wet or rain.
I wanted to get an idea of some of your tyre sizes and tyre types you guys use in the rain and any advice you would have.

I have driven on the track a few times in the rain with my FD and the setup felt really balanced, fast and easy to drive. I only have had experience with one setup driving in the rain. I had Ohlins R&T 11k/11k coilovers, Maxxis maz1 245/40/17 tyres all round, stock sway bars, 1.5 way Carbonetic LSD. I really liked this setup for the rain but I think in the dry my nt01 tyres provides too much grip and the car would lean a lot and be a bit sloppy in the quick transition sections of the track.

I stiffened up my spring rates to 14k/14k on the Ohlins to help in the dry which seemed to work very well with the nt01 but I am a bit concerned about the tyre size I went with for the rain/street.

I already bought Michelin SuperSports in 275/35/18 all round thinking that the wider width would give more grip in the wet as well but after having done some research I found out that the wider width tyres can cause hydroplaning on a relatively light car like an FD in standing water.

I haven’t had a chance to race in the rain yet with my new setup but do you think the 275 Michelin pss is too wide and would be dangerous to race in the rain?

What tyre sizes and coilover spring rates do you have that works well for you in the rain?

Thanks! Please feel free to share your setup and what works for you.

I run the same springs and shock settings in the rain and it is one of the fastest cars in Western Canada. 1300 lb front and 1400 lb rear. The best thing is to get proper rain slicks and you will feel like its driving in the dry. Or a deep treaded slolam/ autocross tire if you can find one but it wont compare to the wet slick tire. .
