Search. There are a couple recent threads. The jist of it is that you need to find a really good job and have lots of disposible income to go road racing.

I agree..... thousands of people want to race.... why should they sponsor you?

Unless you can bring their products/services with extra attention/market share thru a publication/TV coverage it is very difficult to get them.

Cheapest way to race and learn and eventually move up to professional racing is thru karting.

BTW- learning to spell and writing proper English would be a good start in the right direction. It was painful to read what you wrote. Seriously!

Beat way to get sponsirship is to be your sponsor"s best customer. What kind of motors do you think are in all of those Penske trucks you see on the road? If you say detroit diesel like it says on the side of Rodger's race cars then you are correct! Racing and sponsorship are a game of washing money and fat rich guys. As the old joke says, How do you make a small fortune in racing? Start with a big one...

If you want to make money racing in the US go to NASCAR. If you want to do road racing go to Japan or Europe. If your not willing to sacrafice your social life, your material goods or sell your sister don't even bother trying to go pro.

Be really fast.

Its not all about being fast, you also have to sell yourself to sponsors.

There are tons of guys out there who are "really fast". Read the biographies of some famous racers - surprisingly, the majority of them didn't come from big money. Most sold everything they had, borrowed everything they could, made lots of friends who wanted to see them succeed, and made sure they were ALWAYS where they needed to be to get noticed and make contacts. That is in addition to being fast, aggressive, and marketable. Notice how many bald, fat, ugly, old goobers get pro contacts lately - yah, NONE. The first step is yours. If you are passionate enough about racing then you will "sell your sister" and get into something that will get you noticed ON YOUR DIME. The way the sponsors look at it, if you aren't willing to back YOURSELF to the point of bankruptcy, you lack the neccissary commitment. If you DO show the commitment, and get LUCKY enough to get ANY sponsorship - you'll have to be committed enough to put racing above your personal desire to be unique. Conspicuous tattoos, piercings, non-mainstream hairstyles, goofy clothes and scuzzy friends - all not an option. Now everything you do reflects not only on YOUR character but directly on the sponsor's product. Whole thing gets complicated in a hurry, you sure this is what you want?

Oh - and you don't have to search very many of MY posts to find out my opinion of posters who want free help/praise/respect/racecars but can't be troubled to take an occasional stab at the shift and punctuation keys. The ability to communicate is the litmus test for people with sponsorship money to spend, and if you were Michael Schumacher your letter would have still made the round file next to the secretaries desk without anyone important ever seeing it. Marketability is about appealing to as broad a section of the buying public as humanly possible - and while the famed "Mad Skilz Doriftos" may find illiteracy to be cool they are a tiny demographic that typically doesn't have much money to spend.

Get a kart and go racing... or have an existing car that will be recognized in a national publication/TV show..... that will get you worthwhile sponsors.

Money doesn't grow on trees and you need to show your sponsor why they should give you some of theirs in the form of $$$ or product/services. To have a successful racing career as said earlier requires being the loop with the major players/sponsors/promoters, being marketable (literate/organized/going all out for races/appearances etc), and have the skills and drive to get there making huge sacrifices along the way.

Some people do that and go broke... but I guess you will never know if you don't try. If you haven't been racing since you were a teen and have connections already..... the likelihood of becoming a racer not on your own dime is rather slim.

First of all, I doubt you have a well paying job with that kind of grammar. Second of all, if you can't suck it up to these guys giving you advice properly, then you will probably not be able to suck it up to instructors, sponsors, other drivers, etc. who would be your crutch for getting anywhere in the racing scene.

One of my biggest pet peeves is illiteracy. Go back to school, or maybe try it for a start. I warn you though, first grade is hard. They teach you cursive!!

Tell your Kart sponsor that since you have no competition in karting his money would be better spent road racing.

BTW- If you can't act or come across as a professional on a public forum. How can you be serious about being a spokesman for somebodys product. Unless your sponsor is "Thugs on Ebonics " you are going to have issues securing somebodys hard earned cash

You know I am always amazed. I have been around racecars since I was about 9... I got my competition license when I was 16. Won my first SCCA race at 17... Now I am 24. Won more races than I can count and I still pay for it myself with my 8-5 job.

And I will say... I am a pretty darned good driver...However there are COUNTLESS other people out there who could out-race me with my eyes closed. You need to pay your dues....work a little...understand that this isn't racing on some back ally and most companys are NOT going to hire a thug or whatever the hell else you think you are... to speak about their product just so you can climb in your "kart" with a 4 horse power engine and have a good time on the COMPANIES dime...
