Racetech seats in a FD? possible?

Has anyone tried this? I have a hard time fitting my sparco circuit pro and I want to switch to a racetech RT9004HR. Problem is the racetech has a wider base. Has anyone attempted this or installed one?

Comparing both dimensions, the racetech seat is not as tall as the circuit pro.

Thanks

I have a racetech seat in my car but it's the smaller/narrower one. I'm 5.9 150 and it's snug.

I don't think the larger seat will fit very well (may require some fab work).

Fritz do you have the R1000? I don't mind some fab work, but I don't want it to be over the top.

I have the RaceTech RT4009WHR in my caged FD. I used the RaceTech aluminum mounting brackets and they are mounted to ~3"x15" 3/16 plate welded to the floor pan.
The OEM cross brace (the front one the OEM seat bolted to) has been removed. If you would like some photos of the fab work I can take a few this weekend.

That would be great if you could post pictures. I noticed the WHR would actually be a little better since it's wider, and I have wide shoulders but I just want to see how tight it would be in the car. Did you remove the cross brace to fit the seat because of height restrictions?

We removed the cross brace after test fitting the seat and thought the nose of the seat might contact with the brace. After installation, we probably could have left the brace in but it was just easier to remove it and not worry about potential interference.

As you have mentioned, these seats are pretty big. I actually had the fab shop build the cage around the seat.

I'll post some pix here over the weekend.

I have the 4009HR in my car, fantastic seat but it is a really tight fit. To get the seat in we cut into the drive tunnel a little to get the seat into the centre of the car as much as possible.

If I was starting again, I'd use the same seat but i'd cut the floor and drop it down a couple of inches to create more head/helmet room btwn the inside head restraint and the roll cage bar running above the drivers door.

I'll dig out some photos ...

Cheers

4 pics with the jig while we were building the cage.

1 with it complete and painted.

Let me know if you have any other questions - RaceTech are just down the road. I'll be in there later in the week picking up a new helmet.

As promised, here are some pictures of my RaceTech RT4009WHR mounted in my FD.:icon_tup:

Drivers side straight down. The seat is moved to the middle so the "shoulder wing" clears the door bar.

Nice

Thanks for the pictures guys, that's exactly what I wanted to see. The fitment is tough but with a little fab work to the floor, we'll make it work.

I have the Rachtech 4009 WHR with a lowered floor pan. Here is a link to the exact one I have and a couple of pictures.

Brent are you running lexan windows in the front and rear?

Brent Dalton 05-11-12 10:42 AM

I do not. I've had to replace a few window the last few years(and currently have a crack in the one in the car) so I may pull the trigger on a lexan one this time. I hear it's easier to keep the scratches off of them now. I've went glass to keep the car heavier as I need all the weight I can get to stay in the class I use to run in. Some things changed this year so I may be changing classes anyways.

Brent, did you get a Variance/Exception from Greg G on your floor pan modification? Unless you are running TTU floor pan modifications are strictly prohibited...per the TT rules.
