The Race Section needs your help! Local info!
I want to post a sticky in here that includes contact information for as many organized racing clubs as our members know about. Most people don't realize how easy it is to get involved! Stuff like the SCCA, NASA, HPDE and autox are no brainers but I'm sure there are plenty of other "small" clubs around that everyone runs in.
If you run with a local road course track, drag race, autox or rally club post up the club or track's info here along with it's location and then I'll organize all of it into an FAQ type list like what I did in the suspension section. Please include the club's name, the types of events it hosts and website or contact info! ...or maybe someone already knows of a site with all this info we could link to? |
All the autocross clubs in Oregon are in this sites links section www.eescc.org

Great HPDE club for the Cali area:
Speed Ventures -- typically runs events at Buttonwillow, Willow Springs, Streets of Willows, with the less often venture to Laguna Seca, Sears Point, and Thunderhill. www.speedventures.net |
One of the really good ones in Texas is http://www.thedriversedge.net/ . They offer every level of HPDE from novice to advanced. They run at Texas World Speedway, Motorsports Ranch, and a special trip to Hallet Motor Racing Circuit once and a while.

The BMW Car Club of America runs high performance driving schools at tracks all over the US. (www.bmwcca.org) The scools are run by the chapters, so each one is a little different. Some will take all the bimmers, and then if there's spots left they'll take anything else, but for others it's first come first serve. I've gone to two at Spokane, WA with the Island Empire Chapter and it's the most fun you can have with your pants on!
In BC there's the BMW Car Club of BC (http://www.bmwccbc.org/) (Driving schools) Sports Car Club of BC (http://www.sccbc.net/) (Racing, racing schools) For other locations in Canada there's other BMW clubs that run schools. Porsche clubs also tend to do HPDE's and schools. A good way to find out who does HPDE's, schools, and racing in your area it to contact the local race track and ask them, or look it up on their website. |
The autocross club in central texas (non-SCCA) is the Texas Spokes Sportscar Club.

Here's a link to the San Francisco Region SCCA Club. They do autocrossing and road racing.

I like to run with Tracquest, which consists mostly of Porsche drivers. It's run by Todd Serota (former RX-7 owner), and he's a really great guy, very helpful, and the instructors are top notch. I haven't run with other HPDE organizations, but from what I've heard, Tracquest places a lot more emphasis on the "education" aspect.
Upside: Lots of track time (usually towards the end of the 2nd day, they'll open the groups up so you get more laps than you can handle). Great instructors. Some of the best food. Pretty tight group. Runs west coast and east coast events. Downside: Pricier than most. |
In the north Alabama/southern Tennessee area, the non-SCCA club for autocross and rally is Twickenham Auto Club (not a fly-by-night outifit, we just celebrated our 50th anniversay!)
http://teamtac.org For older RX-7 vintage car racing, (and I mean real racing not just driving around slow), Historic Sportscar Racing holds events up and down the east coast. http://www.hsrrace.com |
The Pikes Peak Sports Car Club (PPSCC) runs autocrosses, ice autocrosses and an occasional scenic tour. We are based in Colorado Springs, at the foot of Pikes Peak. We are a diverse club open to all makes and friendly folks.

Texas OT groups:
EDP Racing : www.edpracing.com TWS Motorsports Club : www.texasworldspeedway.com NASA Texas : www.nasatx.com Plus the Porsche & BMW clubs, but those are easy (and plentiful) to find. |
NASA's main homepage with links to all regional chapters:
http://www.nasaproracing.com/ Monthly events at a good price. Usually 3-4 20 minute sessions with some events having more and longer sessions. HPDE has started running several TT (time trial) classes in group 4 (fast group) that rewards the fastest one lap of the day to the driver from each class. Much like an autocross, but you have 3-4 20 minute sessions on a full road course versus a few 'one laps' through cones in a parking lot. |
CALIFORNIA:
This is the website to go to if you want to do a HPDE(read track event). It lists every HPDE in California(and Nevada also). http://track-days.org/ What is great about this site is that it lists all the track events for the entire year but it tells you who organizes the event (gives you the link to their website) and price. I go to this site every few weeks to dream about and plan my next track event. |
