Question about octane rating of C16
 

Hey guys, in the journey to purchase some good race fuel for running 25 psi, I obviously came across VP fuels C16, which is rated on their site as 117 octane. A race car mechanic from Prather Racing told me that VP doesn't "add the octanes together" and that C16 is really about 110-112 octane. He said that he uses torko (thats how he pronounced it not sure about spelling) 112 octane leaded fuel. I would like any input on the real octane rating of C16 and also if any one knows anything about torko 112 shoot. Thanks for any input, all help is appreciated. Thanks, Evan

If you have a wideband DO NOT use the leaded fuel. I killed my 02 after 10 gal (mixed)

VP is the best. You're mechanic doesn't know what he's talking about. C16 is 117 octane.

VP is the only fuel I run in my car... C12 up to about 25 psi... anything over that gets C16 or Import.

I've tried Sunoco and Torco - VP is all I run anymore.... great stuff.

I'm guessing C12 is 112 octane? So would it be better to just not run an O2 sensor at all if I run leaded fuel? I would like to be able to run pump gas on lower boost, and I've had my O2 sensor unhooked before and it didn't really seem to affect anything.

No C12 is 108 Motor Octane.

Are you concerned with your stock O2 sensor - or a wideband? I have an FJO wideband and have had the same sensor for almost 2 years with no problems (knock on wood)... lots of leaded fuel.

If you know you will keep your boost low enough for pump - then run it... keep the leaded fuels for high boost.

I don't have a wideband. I just don't want to be replacing my stock O2 sensor every other week ; )...I think I'll just make my new downpipe without a bung for an O2 and just not run one. Thats not going to hurt the power much is it? I could care less about how much the car pollutes though

ERC makes C16 as well and has a nice turbo blend. I used to love running that in my GN/FC. VP is good dino juice as well.
