question about the engine position
 

i heard that if you lower the engine the car will handle better, is that true or not? and if it true how far you can go? thanks

it lowers the car's center of gravity, giving it a little more stability. you can go as far as your front transaxle will let you.

Oil pans hate dragging on the ground. If you go to low you will have to look into a dry sump system.

While you're at it move it back a couple inches too.

for an 84 GSL-SE the engine location is not the reason for your "bad" handling. many other things can be done to the car to make it handle better. just moving the engine down or back in itself will do nothing. better choice for the time and money would be a good set of shocks,springs, and tires to start with. this will do more for the handling than moving the engine. if this is a totally tricked out full blown race car then moving the weight of the engine and trans toward the center of the car and lower may help. would not be my first modification though.

well really im asking because i put a weber carb on a turbo II lower intake and is hitting the hood and one of the sugestion i heard from people is to lower the engine, my car handles perfect but i was just making sure that wont hurts the handling, but thanks

No, but what it may cause is a change in the angle from the output shaft on the tranny to the driveshaft, possibly accelerating wear on the universal joint there.

Lowering the engine is a good idea for handling, but you need to do that properly to avoid introducing more problems.
