Putnam Park / Indy (not really tech related)
Hi all. This isn't quite race car tech related, but I think I'll get the best response here (so I apologize).
I'm going to the USGP at Indy, and leaving a day early to go to Putnam Park to test drive a Diasio. Problem is, I've got a place to stay through Indy, but not that first night (9-27). There seem to be no hotels left in town, so I'd appreciate either: A) A place to crash other than my rental car B) Suggestions on where to crash in my rental car w/o being shot/arrested C) Suggestions on avoiding being shot/arrested if there are no such places. Any help would be appreciated! TIA. Idea D just occured to me: D) Has security gotten really tight at the airport in Indy, and do you think I could just drive back and crash there? Thanks again! |

I'm really looking forward to the drive in the Diasio, but I'm afraid it's going to make going back to the old FD tough...I may really regret this test drive ;) |
Depending on your mods, you may be suprised. It wasn't like the Diasio was kickin' my ass, but you never know what kind of testing Dick was doing while we were on the track together.

Chris Diasio was supposed to be working on a rotary-powered D962. Don't know how far Chris is. There were to be two versions, 12A-powered for CSR (SCCA), and a 13B REW for an open-track car...Currently the D962s are powered by 150-hp Yamaha 2-cycle motors. The chassis apparently weighs 1500 lbs, so that's 10 lbs per hp (without the driver). The 12A was supposed to make 225 hp (normally aspirated), and the 13B REW twin turbo making 300+ hp...like I said, this Chris' plan late last year, but I don't even know if he has a working prototype??

Manny,
Have you been on the track with one of his cars? How did you do with it? |
Putnam Park with D962s
Yamahama-powered D962s turn 1:12s with Chris Diasio's 265-lbs of bodyweight behind the wheel. Dave/Don Crews turn 1:16s (average size guys 170 lbs?). Craig Bradley turns 1:13s (Craig's 140 lbs?). Jeff Bollenbacher is a new D962 owner, and he's still learning the car but turns 1:18s (Jeff's 260 lbs)
My hottest laptimes are 1:20 to 1:21s in the Rx7 with 17-inch Hoosier R3S03s and Type RS brakes (Portefield R4-Es), I'm pushing 245 lbs myself! |
borch,
I've never test-driven one of the D962s. The Crews always offer to let me drive their D962, but I usually decline...I'm afraid I'll never get back in the Rx7 after trying the D962 at Putnam Park:) |
