Pro 7, spec RX-7 classes = gone?
 

Did the Pro 7, and all the other spec first-gen RX-7 classes die out or something? They're not listed anywhere anymore.

It seems at this point, they'd be better off just having an S4 NA-only Spec class...

It's easier to find driveable S4 NA's (especially with four-lug wheels and single-pot brakes) than any other kind of RX-7...

Also, in the southeast, IT7 (a subclass of SCCA ITA for RX-7's) is alive and well.

For FCs - in SCCA ITS they are doing well, especially since the Bimmers have been punted up to ITR.

IT-7 is a class for SCCA legal IT-A cars(FB RX-7), that can't out run the IT-A ricers with FI and FWD.

spec7 and pro7 have hit their peak already and are petering out. unfortunately. GRM even said the cars are a little long in the tooth.

spec miata is the replacement; they just handle so darn good, are newer, and fi is so much easier.

There is a Pro-7 class in the International Conference of Sports Car Clubs (ICSCC). ICSCC runs in the NW including British Columbia. With a tweak or two they can be classified as in teh Conference G-Production or H-Production classes which are TRUE stock classes unlike SCCA!

They are a little long in tooth and totally uncompetative in ITA. But my car was farily cheap to buy and operate and I plan on doing so for the next few years, but I do look longinly at a Miata . . . .

I am contemplating this as a step into racing in a year or so.

If the SCCA would just move the cars to ITB, there'd be new life in the 1st Gens. I think they're moving towards it. One huge hurtle is going away... the cage rules. Minimum weight for 1.5x.095 is moving north to 26XX or something like that.

Now if we could just convince the vocal guys down in the SE to give up their 7" wheels for 6"ers, we'd be set!

The only downside after that is the drying up of 12a housings and aftermarket support going away. ISC is getting out of the 1st Gens altogether. Yaw's gone for carbs, SDJ is MIA :(

Still alive in SCCA. 13-25 cars on a regular basis. NASA dropped the group and those cars are now blended into the Pro Touring classes.

Good points Scott. I'm still not having any issues getting 84-85 12a housings from Mazda. It's a shame ISC is getting out. We need to support vendors such as Mazdatrix and respeed that are still developing new products for us.

I have a car that would move to B. Someone might actually want to buy it then.

One more piece of the puzzle is to get dual classifications for IT cars. Then we could have 1st Gens in ITA, IT7 and ITB. Pick your wheel width and minimum weight and have fun. Dual classification would also give allot of a market for our 7" wide wheels.

I don't know - if 1st Gens get classed to ITB, then I would almost expect IT7 to disappear (as long as the car is competitive in ITB).

Hmmmmm.......A chance to race competitively against other makes and models in a class that is in the GCR......count me in!

I have raced in IT7 for the last few years in Midiv. Its a fun class and the other drivers are great. However the fields are small and everybody keeps selling their cars. ITB ain't allot better but it could get better if RX7's and first gen MR2's were added to the mix.

Since IT7 is a region specific class there is nothing that says it cannot continue on even if RX7's are moved to ITB.
