Pro-7 question

Hi there , i'm considering starting up a pro7 car but as i read through the rules i found this .

7.32.5 The leading mount of the lower rear trailing arms on the 84-85 maybe relocated 19mm (center to center) higher to emulate 79-83 models

my question is why ? it this a better design? i have an 80 and an 84 i was thinking of using the 84 but rather than doing a mod like this i think i'd rather use the 80.

fill me in

Jeremy

Supposedly that was part of the suspension redesign to elimate some oversteer that was present in the earlier cars.

I'm sure you can set you car upto get very close to the same handeling characteristics with either setup, it will just take a bit of tuning...

Anyone have more input?

I would use the later model car for all around better package, and unfortunately it is difficult to tune out the oversteer on a pro7 car. after racing one for a while people seem to get the technique of tossing the car around down to a science.

1st the 84-85 mod is very simple to do so dont that let be a factor on which car to use. Here the bodies to use in prefered order.

79-80 Non-sunroof
81-85 non sunroof
79-80 sunroof
81-85 sunroof

So a sunroof car is the least prefered, because of the extra weight in the roof.
79-80 have extra bracing where the storage boxes are in the later cars, but have a smaller gas tank if you are not going with a fuel cell. Fuel adds weight to the rear where it is needed.
But a 79-80 will need the front fenders, front bumper and valance off a 81-85 to lighten up the front end. Not counting the other items required by the rules.

Bottom line, use the car that has the staightest body/frame and will take the least amount of effort to get on the track.

send me a PM if you have any more questions.

John
