Attachment 647400The car is a 1979 it7 car with a lsd rear end out of an 84. This is still pretty unfamiliar territory for me. I know they need to be fixed the car is pretty unstable over bumps. The rears are tokikio and I bet the front are also but what model? I cant see any identifying markers. Or are they a stock shock and just have the coilover sleeve over it? What should I replace them with? Can I get them rebuilt? Mazdatrix is out of tokico... where can I get a set of anything. Cant spend more than about $500.

Any help is appreciated like always.

Those are Tokico Blues. You need to replace them with new ones. If your staying in Spec7. that is the shock you need. Pro7 is Tokico Luminas and are adjustable. If your running IT you can up grade to Koni Sport single adjustable(for about 500.00). Koni also has Double ajustables for a little more.
I will have some Koni Singles up for sale soon.

Im having trouble finding a place to buy them and are they just a stock shock so if I type in 1979 rx7 then they will be the correct shock for front and back or do I need to find a specific designation?

Front:
Tokico HP Strut Cartridge for RX-7 Front 81-85 - Racing Beat

Rear:
Tokico HP Shock Absorber for RX-7 Rear 79-85 - Racing Beat

Note: Tokico/Koni Strut Cartridges for the 1979-80 RX-7 are no longer available from these manufacturers. The 79-80 Strut Cartridge featured a slightly longer body as compared to the later 1981-85 RX-7 front Strut Cartridge.

Sorry, this product is on temporary backorder. Contact Racing Beat for ordering information and expected availability date.

Tokico Update
Good news, Tokico products should be available at Racing Beat within the next few weeks. Recent conversations with Tokico’s new US distributor indicated that product was being sent from Japan ...

$55 bucks apiece, in stock, free shipping. I've dealt with TH before and everything went smoothly.

Racing beat is all out of fronts. The rears are in stock at THMotorsports but dont seem to offer the front shocks.... does anyone offer the fronts? I know the backorder could take a week or a year knowing these some companies...

This site seems to have them. Hz1069 is the number I saw on racingbeat and this matches. Hope its the right pair and fits inside the coils. Ive only got next week to do this since it is my spring break.

notice that the hz1069 is for 81-85 rx7s... your 79 is probably different unless the strut tubes have been replaced with later ones.

also, a lot of places will say the have stuff and just try to drop ship it from distributors... so they'll email you a week later saying they're on backorder.

I would give racingbeat a call and see if they have any estimate on when they're coming. They're out of stock because the US distributor changed. So it's likely no one has them.

Hopefully I can call and talk to someone from each company. Is there a way I can tell if it is indeed a '79 shock insert or a '82? This car has been Frankensteined so much it wouldnt surprise me that it is something different.

Engine is an '84, trans is 81, rear 84, body is 79 but camber plates I'm wondering might throw off the distance the shocks need to be.

If you really get stuck and need to keep the "Luminas"; find a shop that builds custo dampers and can use the shells. Done frequently here in UK/Europe where spec dampers are required!
