Excellent pictures, thanks for sharing.

Was this from a recent Panoz track day?

Silkworm 02-05-03 07:17 PM

Nice pics :) I like #3 the best though. God I want to go drive RA :)

I have some we took of Foko and Jeremy at the NCRC gig I need to upload tonight.

great pics. that lotus looks mean as hell.

eyecandy 02-07-03 08:08 AM

Hey buy any chance do you know what kind of camera the guy used? Or did you just find them on the web?

Its looks to good to be a scanned 35mm...

Madman 02-07-03 08:39 AM

Dude! I think that was one of the days that I was there with the Porsche 986 club. That day I brought the Mini Cooper S.

macrod01 02-07-03 01:54 PM

How has you new Cooper S treated you? I've thought about getting one near the end of this year and I'm curious about their build quality/reliability. I bet that car was tons of fun around Rd Atl (especially turns 1 and 12).

357 02-07-03 05:22 PM

Awesome pics, man. Yeah, how's that Cooper treating ya?

MrZUMZUM 02-07-03 10:08 PM

Hey Guys:

Thanks for all the responses. I didn't even realize there were any; forgot to subscribe to the thread.

Madman, yeah that was the same day. I was the guy you were talking to in the 3rd gen in the pics. It was cool watching you run around in the Mini; looked like a blast.

It wasn't a Panoz day, but was the 986 club (boxsters) day. Once in a while the Panoz got out there and blew everyone off the track.

Yeah, that Lotus gets around the track pretty good. It's right behind me because I'm holding him up; my side of the story is that I just passed him. lol.

It was a digital camera that the guy was using; I think he said it was around 6 megapixel. He was actually trying out a couple of different cameras that day. With all that resolution I think it allows him to shoot wide, then crop in and properly compose the shot. It works!

Already ordered an 18 x 24 of pic 1; I just love the shot and that was one beautiful 911 in the background, right Madman?

C-ya.

Hey Macrod01:

Just noticed you LIVE THERE!!!!!

Damn I'm jealous; we had to trailer the cars 8 hours to get there.

Oh well; we're superbowl champs down here and I guess I'm closer to Sebring. 1 1/2 hours.

RA is one bad-ass track; we had a friggin blast!

88IntegraLS 02-08-03 08:52 PM

That is an awesome 3rd gen. Nice pics!

Madman 02-12-03 09:10 AM

Ah good to see you were the person I was talking to! As far as the MINI goes, I think I enjoy it more and more every day. I have had it for about 6 months now and it is really a blast. The only caveat is there has been two or three small things that I have needed to take it into the dealer for (under warranty). No big things though: sunroof seal needed to be reattached and e-brake boot came unglued).

As far as the car on the track, it really felt right at home. I have taken it to a SOLO2 event but that was first time at a road course and I thought it did great. I will be getting some brembo brakes for it as that was the only area that needed improvement. The stocks faded after a few laps. I will also be doing some exhaust/intake/chip basic mods plus tires. The only problem is I like the car so much that I have to split my car play money now between the mini and the rx-2! :D If anyone else has specific Q's about the MINI, fire away!

That first pic is great! Stephen Huss had a part ownership in that GT2 red porsche. He and I work together and he was the organizer of the event. I hope to see you again sometime out there!

MrZUMZUM 02-12-03 05:03 PM

Madman:

You only hope to see me about HALF as much as I want to get back there. That track is such a blast; I would really love to run it again when it's not 22 friggin degrees out so the tires could heat up. I also need to get a shot of testosterone to swell up my balls so I would go off the drop off in the bridge turn at speed instead of lifting. My buddy and that instructor in the Boxster spinning into the wall didn't help either.

I'm running my car at Sebring April 19th and can't wait.

I was able to outrun my buddy (His car pic attached, which is a friggin AWESOME shot) in his 911 at RA, which really chapped his ass. He usually blows me away at Sebring so we'll see how I do against him then (I think I'm getting better/smoother/faster).

His unfair advantage is the danged race slicks; I run on street tires. Good luck in that bad Mini.

See ya.

David

MrZUMZUM 02-12-03 05:07 PM

Pic 1 - That same Red 911 is right behind him and you can see a beemer behind the Red Porsche.

I'll have to post em later..........this server won't take posts with attachments right now for some reason.

macrod01 02-13-03 05:27 PM

Yep, I live about 4 miles from Road Atlanta and I can sit on my back patio and listen to the cars when I'm not able to go to the track to watch. I'll babysit that beautiful 3rd gen so you don't have to haul it around. I'd only run it once a month to keep it in good running order. ;)

Glad to hear that the MINI is a hit - I wonder how much of a PIA it would be dealing with a child seat w/ only 2 doors. Hmmm... :D

What the heck...........no pictures will post for some reason..................I give up after about 20 tries..........

Sorry...........

Macro:

Thanks for the babysitting offer. I'll have my girl get in touch with your girl and see about that.

That'll probably depend on the weather..........such as, the day after hell freezes over.........;) :D :p:

hahaha, yeah I figured that was the response I was going to get. And I can't say I blame you. So did the first time through Turn 12 get your attention?

MrZUMZUM 02-14-03 12:06 PM

Turn 12?

No not the first time; actually the first through 140th time (all friggin weekend) got my attention...........something about driving off a 6 story building at 100mph affects your sphincter factor big time.........

I had to squirt some WD-40 in there just to be able to crap again................

What a friggin thrill that entire track is, but I never could hit that bridge turn without lifting. In my earlier post I mentioned my buddy and an INSTRUCTOR spinning at the bottom and grazing the wall. The high temp that weekend only hit 30, and we could never get the tires over 70 degrees, so traction was NOT at a premium.

Can't wait to go back.

David

Madman 02-14-03 01:45 PM

Yeah no kidding about the instructor (Pete). He did that before I had any track time that weekend and I was pretty worried. But actually, since I have never done a road course, he was my instructor that rode along with me, and he is a really great guy. When coming down the hill into 12 he kept saying, "no just hit it! dont have to let up!" I never had the nerve to floor the car going down the hill and then turn in. Maybe next time when it is warmer!:D Hey, MrZUMZUM, if you get a chance to go out there again and for some reason I dont know about it, shoot me a PM or e-mail!

MrZUMZUM 02-14-03 04:01 PM

That's right. I now remember that I later saw him getting out of your car. He's got bigger balls than me............since after he had already spun in that same turn he's telling you to FLOOR IT!! Too funny.

I'll definitely get in touch with you when I'm heading that way next time.

Chronos 02-14-03 11:47 PM

awesome pics...and yeah, whoever took them is a great photographer. How much hp are you running MrZUMZUM? mod list? :)

MrZUMZUM 02-15-03 07:46 AM

Mod list is listed above in my sig. You probably didn't notice it 'cause it's so puny. I dunno, probably about 280hp or so, based on everything I read from the forum here. Just a dp, KandN, and RB cold air intake so I'm guessing around 25hp extra. The only mod I plan to add for now performance wise is I'd like to get a RB dual tip catback. A buddy has one and said he got a pretty good boost in hp AND his underhood temps went WAY down, due to it flowing so much better.

That's about it; call me silly but this car has enough hp for me right now. One thing you learn at the track is that driving smooth and fast through turns beats the hell out of hp anyday. I learn this everytime as the spec miatas, that can only top out at about 105mph, whup my ass routinely. They also go through turns at 90 that I can only hit at 75. Road racing can be quite humbling.

Another example is the Lotus Elise behind me in the one pic. 180hp and killed me on the track.

It's such a friggin blast anyway!!!!

Chronos 02-15-03 07:05 PM

sounds like such a blast, I can't WAIT to do it!

SleepR1 02-25-03 08:06 PM

Man, I gotta get back there to Braselton GA. My last time @ Road Atlanta was with Peachtree BMW CCA March 2000. The Bridge turn took a few laps to get used to before I stopped wetting my "Underoos" ;)

ttpowerd 02-26-03 09:05 AM

https://www.rx7club.com/forum/attach...postid=1470662

I spy a stock radiator. Honestly I would change it out before it blows. Mine cracked and leaked slowly so I had to fill it up every 2 days or so and I was worried that I was going to over heat my motor. Just a little advice. Sweet pic BTW.

MrZUMZUM 02-27-03 06:31 AM

You spy correctly. Matter of fact, if you looked under the hood you'd spy a whole lotta stock stuff. Right now I don't lose a drop of coolant, and I put the SPA gauge in to digitally monitor the temps, and have it programmed to flash a warning light when temps hit 200. On the track the car runs around 170-175 when it's cold out, and about 190 or so when it's hot. So for now, it's all good. I keep a close eye on it though; at the first sign of a leak out she goes.

Thanks for the heads up though; I just have to monitor my car expenditures or my wife will change the locks. ;)

TT, since you live so close maybe I'll see you out there next time; seems like there's quite a few FD's in the area, but I was the only one there on Jan 11-12. Maybe the 22 degree outside temp kept everyone away.

C-ya.

MrZUMZUM 02-27-03 09:11 AM

Btw, good one SleepR1..........underoos.........lol.......

I'm 45, so for me it's more the "Depends" soiling...........

That bridge turn if definitely a mofo.............fun, fun, fun..............
