Party at T'Hill, 2-7 saturday

Looks like 4-5 BPU Supras will be heading out to Thunderhill with Speed ventures on the 7th. Anybody want to come play? My Track Fc will not be done so I'll have my Supig 3800lb beast. I imagine Paul will be at Sears for NASA, Cossie? anyone else? Drop me a line at 707-696-2705 if you may be coming. Carl

Silkworm 02-01-04 12:46 PM

yeah, I'll be at Sears taking pics for Head-On, my car is still in pieces at the moment..

BTW, these guys are freakin fast, the group I am running in was posting mid 1:46xx times at Sears.............

reza 02-04-04 12:44 AM

I am thinking about going.....Don't know yet....

in2twins 02-04-04 10:15 AM

GO rEZA gO..........

reza 02-04-04 11:38 AM

Hey...NASA has HPDE at SearsPoint.
What are the differences between this and the speedventures ones? All I know is its cheaper $149 vs $190+$30 instructor fee.

Cossie 02-04-04 12:35 PM

Well...

NASA = alot more cars and dare I say..more carnage?

:)

in2twins 02-04-04 12:57 PM

Also, T'hill is alot safer place to learn your limits. As far as cost, there is no late registration fee at SV, so actually NASA is 200.00, with the 50.00 late registration. I usually run with NASA, Group4 at Sears, I am running in the high 1:58-59xx range, compare that to the top group from Speed ventures, they are turning times in the 1:46-50 range. Better drivers= better learning opportunities for me. That said, I still like, and will regularly run w/NASA this year. Looks like I'll be running Sunday as well, assuming my car holds up. hope to see you there. Carl Byck

Carl Byck 02-08-04 09:53 PM

Well, not a single FD showed............. Anyway, it was fun even though my car was down about 80rwhp do to an unknown problem(.84bar vs 1.4 ordinarily), and I had an un-cureable 3/4" toe in, and an EXTRA 1.5 degrees of negative camber due to my two adjusters striping out). I did post a 2:11 none the less, not great, but my best in the two times I have been at this track(two different cars). There was really only one RX7 racing, weird. Anyway, Speed ventures is definitely a good group, although a little expensive. The best times were 350rwhp S2000s on slicks at around 2 minutes flat. These guys are fast. I did make a video, although Paul will have to help me post it. It is only interesting in terms of racing line, since there were only six cars in my group on Sunday. anyway, lets try to pull together a bay area meet at one of the open tracks, what do you guys think? Later for now, Carl

Silkworm 02-08-04 11:07 PM

good lord man, I was at sears today.. one of the PS1 RX-7s was running 1:55s.. FOOK

2:11 is pretty good man! Good job

I'm down for a meet, but unless it's a nasa gig, it's kinda hard for me to be sure I can go, the truck and trailer are all over california with photo gigs..

Thanks Paul, I think NASA will be at T'Hill on the last weekend in Feb. Spread the word. Didn't you run a bit faster than that at Thunderhill? 1:55 sounds pretty quick for PS1. I think I need to bust into the mid 1:40s in my class(NASA) to be competitive. That will only be 12 seconds faster than I've ever gone there.......... Oh well, this is for fun right???? I was sucking 8 gallons of 100 octane every session(X 7 sessions) at T'Hill this weekend(left early do to my "issues"), that adds up at 5.00 a gallon! Anyway, I ran the new Carbotech XP9s. On my 3750lb Supra, I could brake deeper than anyone out there, including S2000s with Stoptechs, and slicks. WOW, no rotor damage, very little dust, and no fade, with no ducting. Unreal! I was also running the JIC FLT A2s, very impressive on the track, and a dream on the street compared to Tein HAs. Talk to y'all soon.

reza 02-09-04 12:38 AM

Good to hear you are having a good time out there.
I did not go out there. instead replacing the rod ends on the toe links. I signed up for the Lotus Club at Thunderhill on the 15th. They say 4hours track time. 2 groups: fast and slow. I am going in the slow one for now. But for $215, 4 hours is a long time to abuse the car. :)

neevosh 02-09-04 01:40 AM

Low 2:1X's is really good for a street car. It'd be fun to have a RX-7 day Thunderhill. I've yet to drive at TH without some kind of car issue. First time I had no boost with my FD. Second time I had fuel pressure problems with my FC.

Silkworm 02-09-04 07:49 PM

I ran a 2:11.2 at T-hill in the last race, so not faster. And if you did that in your Supdog, daymn!!!!!!!!! I thought you were driving the SU RX-7

PaulC

Carl Byck 02-10-04 01:08 AM

I drove that in a Supra down almost 80rwhp due to a huge boost leak/blown turbo(?) and ~1/2-3/4" toe in on one rear wheel, plus F'd up camber due to some failing suspension bits. I couldn't even pass a stock EVO on the front straight, My car was definitely hurtin. BUT, 2:11 is fast, good job, now I know what that feels like. I will be back with the Sup Dog one more time before the 7 is done. See you all at the Hill on the 28th I believe... Anyway, it's all good fun, I think I blew up my stock blow off valve, running double stock boost the first time out:D Oh well, time to go Big single....... I guess for a street car, and second time at that track, that was not too bad. There was another BPU Supra that was supposed to have turned some 2:08s, although he did not have a transponder.

Carl for NASA on 28th Feb, do you know what the schedule normally looks like? How much track time?
I tried to look for the day schedule, but can't get it off www.nasaproracing.com website.
They also have US Drift at the same time, hopefully its not in the HPDE groups...I don't want other car spinning around while I am cruising...

in2twins 02-10-04 11:04 AM

Reza, I will probably go the 27th, I forgot about the drifting on the 28th. No, they would not combine the two. A typical day would get you 4-20 minute sessions, with the fastest groups going out first, and about 1-1.5 hours between runs. Cost S/B ~149.00 You need to go to norcal region to get the event info. You also need to join. Hope that helps, you can call me if you like, at 707-696-2705 if you have questions.

Silkworm 02-10-04 03:29 PM

yeah, and you get to watch three or 4 FCs going at it in the race with all the 1st gens and Miatas :)

reza 02-10-04 03:51 PM
