NZ in-car racing video

Hey guys

Thought I'd share some in-car footage from a recent race meeting down here in New Zealand.

The class is an open GT division, no real rules on horsepower or what you can do with the car so there's a really good mix of cars.

I'm running a mildly ported motor with stock turbos plus cooling and fuel system upgrades. I qualified P21 for this one and finished 16th - an OK result.

Enjoy :-)

Did enjoy thanks for sharing. Looking very much like manfield, knacked my clutch on my FC there november 2010, only just got 'round to replacing it with a HD unit last November. Was just a friendly trackday

you're right - it's manfield ... you should try the road and track series that Julian and the team at motorsport manawatu run, it's a really good intro with plenty of track time and you only need a club level license (paper work and a few $$)

I used to belong to MREC but not this financial year, my FC is roadlegal, not a trailer queen so I drive it to all my events and home again, kinda too chicken to push it foot flat, and get into full house racing and stuff (although it is real hard once you get on there and the adreneline starts kicking)
so always left it to staggered starts and safe overtaking. Like I said ... too chicken that and my 13BT is up to 166K on its original factory wankel.

have raced taupo track couple times (all 3 tracks) wallaceville hillclimb, port rd street sprints too...

sounds like where I started from before I got completely hooked on racing...

where are you based? I live 10 mins from port road, so I tend to go and take a look.

post a pic of your car.

Great fun video with lots of variety in the grid. Things look like they are really in it for the pleasure of racing. I watched the start twice, so forgive my North American unknowingness, but it looks like the yellow Starlet (?) to your right, rolls the start then passes guys up the dirt on the right side of the track. Up here that would get you a black flag at least, first for a jumped start and second for improving position off course.

How tight are you guys with race rules or is it more for fun and kicks. I love tha fact that there are a number of cars with plates on them and I watched another video linked to yours and it had a couple of Capri's in it (my first race car). Just great stuff.

Hey there

I hadn't spotted the jumping at the start before but I think you're right! The cheeky bugger ... I think it's an old Datson 1600 from memory.

As to the rules, there's often time penalties applied and the like so it's not entirely relaxed but there is a bit of 'no harm no foul' attitude which is a good fun to way to race :-)

A good mate of mine runs a Capri with a Nissan 20DET in it ... a well set up car that's a couple of seconds faster per lap than I am.

Cheers
Shaun

I haven't spotted the pink FC but I only really get to the track for the winter series or testing days at the moment.

What's your batty - road going, track car or somewhere in between?

Cheers
Shaun

You sound like a great guy, but Holey schmoley, edit your post to remove your phone number or somebody could do nasty things to your life.

my bat is a track/hillclimb only hack,we do events with the Hamilton car club, trying to save for a single turbo set up,have had alot of differant prices for rebuilt etc, lowest quote was 10,000 plus gst from rx7 heaven, garret gt 35/40 turbo, fuel system, port etc, alot of workshops didnt get back to me about prices but im not to worried as ppre, cbr are very busy at the moment, cheers.

I think I might have seen a few of you guys out on the track. I get to Manfeild a bit. Should be at the next test session.

If any of you are interested in improving your cars to the tune of that sort of money, have you thought of swapping plus cash for a completed race car? Mines up for sale if your interested (sorry, i know thats a bit cheaky =P).
