Numbers for my car
 

where can i get numbers for my car? im looking for high quality, with my class designation and maybe my name or somthing. im thinking about vinyl but magnets could work for me.. by the way,what class would i be in with all the mods listed in my sig? im new to autocross but i want to have my car set up for the track. thanks in advance.

I was thinking you could sneak into ASP but I am pretty sure a couple of your parts would put you in SM2. I could not find a specific rule on the driveshaft. All I could find in SP rules was "rotating and reciprocating parts may be balanced but not lightened". The Brembo discs are alright in ASP as long as they are the same dimensions as the stock rotors and are 1 piece like stock.

I would say SM2 because of the d.s. but will let others chime in.

thanks finky, where do i find the rules for class designation? i couldnt find anything on scca's web site.

by the way, the drive shaft is not aluminum or anything, it is just a strait up replacement shaft but it has replaceable u-joints.

Well if the only difference is a replaceable/non-replaceable joint, and it was made by Mazda, then I think it would be allowed in any class. You may get protested if you tried to run it at Nationals in SS. ;) But locally in the novice class, no one will care and no one will know unless you tell them.

The rule of the SCCA rules "if it does not say you can, then you can't".

I would have no problem racing you in ASP. I was just letting you know the worst case scenario. I did not read anywhere in the Street Prepared rules that you could change the driveshaft, SO....

If you want to make cheap #s and letters you can also buy magnet sheets at a craft store or hardware store and cut out your own.

His prices are so low ($25) that I don't know how he can make a profit. Order them now if you're going to NHIS this weekend and he'll bring them with him and give them to you there. He can also help you figure out what class you would be in. What class did Rick race in? You both have FD's right? He was not in the same class as us (i.e. SM2).

yeah. my car is not nearly as modified as Rick's. at this point im not sure if i will make it to nhis cause i might be doing my clutch that day. it might be my only free day this weekend and i want to be able to get it in asap so i can begin (and finish) the brake in period. if i do it saturday, then i will be a nhis, but i won't race on my clutch. maybe i could co drive ricks car...................... god dammit i sound like im making excuses.either way ill be at the rest of the events for the rest of the year.

but.... what class AM i in. i need to know before i order numbers. the listed mods are my only mods.

I'd say NSS (novice super stock) Some of your mods may not put you into that class by the letter of the rules, but you should be there by the spirit of the rules. I think the short shifter, driveshaft, and stainless brake lines could move you out of SS, but they give you little to zero advantage. The exhaust and struts are your only real performance modifications and they're both allowed in stock classes.

You should also look at the results from last year before you choose your class. SS is a very compeditive class. You may do better in ASP or SM2 if there is less competition. They also PAX the novice classes to decide the novice trophies. There is a lot more than just a spec sheet that goes into picking a class that you can do well in.

I just re-read the rules. By the letter you should be in ASP, not SS, due to the brake lines and short shifter. Drilled or slotted rotors are not allowed in SS, unless equiped from the factory.

so when i order number and class from KC, i am going to order my class for ASP?

what does ASP stand for and why dont i see it in the 2006 rule book? sorry for being such a noob.

oh and btw. i will be eliminating the ac and ps on my car this weekend.

ASP is A Street Prepared. (Look in the back of the rule book for the street prepared car classing)

ASP sounds like the right class to me. So it would be SASP for Novice ASP. We use N for Novices in stock class, and S for novices not in stock class.

Or if you want to run with some really fast and cool guys, SM2.. or in your case if you want to run novice, SSM2. (There aren't many cars in our region in ASP, but there are a few in SM2).

Its just listed as Street Prepared. The third gen is in the highest SP class, known as ASP.

I would compete in SASP if you're gunning for the novice non-stock championship. Go SSM2 if you just want friendly competition every event.

what is the difference between novice and not? id assume first year driver...

Come join us in SM2, it will be a blast. You can run against David in SSM2. I'm going to run in SM2 so that it takes the pressure off of David (but we can still compare times).

I'm not sure if they will run "Novice Non-Stock" together as a group or if all "Novice" drivers run in the main "stock" or "non-stock" classes.

At NER events, all novices run with their respective open class. :) That's why we use an additional letter designation for the classes.

Christian, KC can make you several class designations inexpensively enough. Then you can just put on the one for the class that "tech" puts you in. Are you running in any upcoming events? What about Rick?
