New Kumho V710 are faaaaaassst!
 

After my first event with my car setup and running the V710's, all I can say is .... WOW! These tires have tremendous grip. The sidewalls don't appear to have much, if any, give. The turn-in is much improved over the previous Victoracer, but I feel the Hoosier is still a little better in that department. The V710 is also very forgiving ... you can hang the rear end out and not get the tire slide/snap oversteer that I've experienced with the A3SO3's.

Tire pressures are more like Hoosiers. The V710 seems to respond better to higher pressures. Probably due to the more Hoosier-like tire design. But, at any rate, it appears the Kumho has finally put out the real deal for R-compounds! :bigthumb:

I am just wondering what size tire your running? I am from Canada and I cant ever get sizing or pricing up here!!!

How much wear did you see compared to a victoracer?

There are only a few sizes currently available. But, that should change in the very near future. I am running 275/40 17's and 315/35 18's ... note, I am not driving an RX-7. ;)

I co-drove with Erik & Beth Strelnieks, so the tires saw a total of 7 runs on a fairly fast 45-50 second course. Ambient temp was mid 50's in the morning and mid 60's by the afternoon. The wear on the tires so far is very good. They don't show much deformation on the "tread" bar. I still have some tire pubes showing as well. Kumho has already been very clear that the V710's won't last as long as the Victoracers ... but I think the tire longevity will still be better than the A3SO3. The new A3SO4 is supposed to be longer lasting too ... so we'll see which tire is [sarcasm]'more economical'.[/sarcasm]

Tread wear after two events is about what I expected. The rubber does have the same peeling/cracking tendencies that I've noticed on the Hoosier A3SO3's. So ... about par for the course.

I'm not sure about what the right pressures are. I've been running fairly high pressures with some success ... low 40's in the front and high 30's in the rear. Some west coast frontrunners have been running lower than Victoracer pressures .... which is surprising. I like the way the car feels right now, so not really planning on changing too much. :)

Those pressures seem VERY high. ~32 is about right HOT(~180* tread), so I would think you would gain ALOT of grip with lower pressures. Carl IMHO>>>

The V710 is much more Hoosier-like in its construction, so it does seem to like higher pressures. Maybe I'll try the lower pressures at the next event.
