New boost controller
Working on a new boost controller . It will be speed based and we will be able to add boost as the car speeds up. The advantages are we can run a low setting in 2nd gear and save the tires over a long run . Once into 3rd gear the controller will add boost up to the top speed. Looking forward to testing the hyperkontrol unit this month.

cool stuff
why not gear based? or are you using speed as proxy? |
We tried gear based and with an old nascar tranny it didn’t work. With this system it will be more accurate with every 2mph control of boost.

That is a rather fine increment.
Switching topics, your front tires look rather meaty. Did you increase size? |
Yes I did . It is a 345/ 18 hoosier. Had to cut up the fender but it fits . Same front and rear ! More front tire will help when the 6 piston Porsche PFC calipers bite down on the new 15 inch PFC rotor.

Is this a drag car? I pulled up the manual https://hyperaktive.com/app/uploads/...rol_Manual.pdf and it sure looks like it's designed for drag racing. It's very purpose built and would not be optimum for street use.

Wouter's car is a road course / circuit racer, not drag, nor street.

That is a huge frickin tire!! Are you guys having a racing season up there? All of my races here in CA have been cancelled thus far so I'm suffering from withdrawal. |
We have a tentative schedule of 3 races . There are very few cases of Covid here.
Hyperaktive is a drag race focused company but this controller has many options including a "street race" mode , which, with the 3 position switch is ideal for roadracing. We would use setting one , low boost for saving fuel and tires, setting 2 for a race, setting 3 for qualifying, and OFF for rain. And in each mode we can allow about 11 psi off the corners and as the speed builds as we get on a straight , run 20 psi , which would otherwise cook the tires off the slow corners. We do time attack hillclimb racing as well and could used the "drag modes "and run specific boost at any section of that track per run. wb |
Have you considered using your engine management system for boost control instead of an external device?
|
As far as I know none of the affordable ecu's have the capability of the hyperkontrol unit. It will map any boost level to 2x wastegate or to 100 psi ( using compressed air) up to 240 mph in 2 mph increments.
We run 500-900 hp and the car is either undrivable off slow corners at high boost or could use more power down a big straighaway. We will soon see but I believe this will work out that dilemma. |
