N/A Engine Weight

I want to use an N/A motor in my TVR racing car. Does anyone know the weight of a dressed N/A motor? Also need to know the weight of an FD manual gearbox.

Here is the list of published engine weights I have. No idea on Trans. weight.

Is that short or longblock.?
I can lift a shortblock so it must be long, im not THAT strong :D

zbrown 11-17-06 04:58 PM

damn that seems heavy.... i can carry a shortblock by myslef, and manifolds dont weith that much....that looks like with the transmission weight added.... the na 5speed weighs somewhere around 100 i think

We seem to have an unrealistic view of the weights of our beloved little engines!

Those weight are complete engines with air conditioning, power steering, exhaust mani, etc. No transmission!

The 2nd gen 13B DEI and 13BT weights are stated as wet weights including engine oil and engine coolant, excluding oil cooler and radiator.

The race engine weights are listed as dry weights- as are most likely all the '60' s and very early '70s weights as that was before weights and HP figures were cracked down on and standardized.

Look at the Peripheral Port motor weights - those are what a N/A rotary stripped down to just the motor housings, compact alum. intake manifold, Weber carburator, header, and ignition will weigh. - about 230 pounds. That is all that is needed on a N/A rotary race engine (less cooling system.)

So, a stripped p-port N/A is going to weigh about 250 lbs. zbrown has suggested the gearbox will weigh 100 lbs, but I'm not sure about that. That compares with the weight of a 5'-2"/ 5'-3" slim woman, and I've picked a few of them up in my time, and I think a gearbox is lighter!

Edit: whoops, revived an old post on accident :/

The P-port engine weights are pretty close to correct.

A first gen tranny weighs just over 70 pounds.
