my new catch can

Well I couldnt find any catch cans I liked, mostly lack of any baffles or filtering, no drain valve (you are supposed to remove the level indicator to drain), and the rediculous cost. So I decided to make my own. Attached is a shot before painting. I am thinking of masking 2 stripes down the sides and painting the rest or maybe just leave it clear.

Internally it has a baffle to prevent oil from climbing the walls under high lateral Gs, and a bronze wool filter on the intake line to help condense out any moisture or oil. At the bottom is a drain valve. It is 2.5" diameter and 6.5" long which means it holds a little less than a pint. Construction is of 100% polycarbonate (lexan) for strength and heat resistance. Oh yeah cost was about $15 in parts.

Good job!! I like it when people get resourceful and manufacture their own stuff.....

Details on how you did it??

where did you get the parts for it?

that looks cool.

I just bought a clear fuel filter for mine, it works great so far. To run it on an FC, I blocked the vent on the block, and ran a line from the nipple on the oil filler neck to the bottem of the fuel filter. So any overflow, will just drain back into teh crank case. I have no digi cam or I would throw up a pic.

thanks for the comments guys.

i got all the parts except the end discs from mcmaster. i had the discs made at a local place called tap plastics.

construction is all polycarbonate of a 2.5" od 1/8 wall tube and 1/4" ends with a 1/8" thick disc for the baffle. the internal part to hold the brass wool is 5/8" od 1/16 wall polycarbonate with 2 brass brads through the side. the nipples are 1/8 npt to 1/4 hose barb made of PVDF.

its really simple just drill and tap the holes for the nipples and drain, and glue everything together with solvent glue.
