This was from my first event of the year at Englishtown- My first autox, you could see the NACA duct for my new intake setup, I'll update my intake thread tomorrow with the finished product.

How did you do?

I did alright, 3rd fastest raw time (I think I need r-comps to be near the pax times) in novice and the 2 drivers ahead of me had prior experience. I found out the car is about a second faster than me, I had an instructor take it out and he was a second quicker. My 3 year old Falkens are heat cycled pretty bad and have very poor grip, I have a new respect for how important tires are. I decided to replace them with the new Nitto NT05s, though I won't have them for Lime Rock on Saturday, that's going to be interesting.

is SSM the new SM2?

as i'm sure you know, R-comps will make all the difference in autocrossing. the first event i used them (V710s) was at Nationals 2006 in Massachusetts in the rain, and it was still like night and day. gives you a whole new level of confidence in your car and definitely an understanding of the difference that tires can make.

good luck with Lime Rock. i would be a little jealous, but im registering for a track day at New Jersey Motorsport Park's Thunderbolt course in June at some point this week.

Be cautious at Lime Rock this time of year. Especially in the early sessions. The track surface is cold and slippery. Takes people by surprise often.

Yup, SSM is the new SM2. I know R-comps would make a huge difference, I was thinking about getting some "streetable" R-comps like the NT01 or the R888 but I think I'll stick with street tires for now.

I am considering either a TrackDAZE event on June 20th/21st on Thunderbolt or the NASA HDPE event on June 19th on the Lightning track. both courses look good and challenging. i am leaning towards NASA so i can move up in classes. are you doing the NASA event at Lime Rock this weekend?

After a very wet day at Lime Rock I can say I learned far more and was more scared (and oddly more comfortable at the same time) then I have ever been on track. It was my third time at Lime Rock and my first time in the rain. I got had very bad oversteer if I applied to much throttle while going onto the back straight, I went sideways 3 times there with one instance causing me to dart across the track, I also got a bit sideways on west bend and slide once through the S's but each time I caught it and didn't spin or go off track. I was also much more comfortable heel toe downshifting which I am quite happy about. My best time that was recorded (stopwatch) was a 1:20 which was about 12 seconds off my pace in the fall and in the dry though I think now I can be much faster in the dry. I was quicker than most cars on track in my group, it was cool passing the E92 M3s. I can't wait to get back there, hopefully in the dry the next time.

What's your sense of the functionality (if any) of the feed wing? You've certainly got the angle of attack jacked to the max. Is there a significant affect?

Yeah I wanted to see it I can get some more grip in the rear for the last session, it seemed to help in the S's as the car felt more composed and controllable, though on corner exit onto the No Name straight traction was nowhere to be found and made for some scary moments.

Did you do the event on those Nittos?

I wish, they came about 5 days too late, next weekends autox will be the first test of the Nittos. My instructor said that this was the slickest he had seen Lime Rock, there was actually a pretty bad crash that sent an instructor to the hospital but from what I heard he was okay thankfully.

PCA Autocross
 

I just got back from a PCA run autocross, first one my new Nitto NT05s. I was still having a serious oversteer issue, I think part of it is me overdriving the car so I am going to have to work on that but I believe the rear should be sticking a bit more. My Stance coilovers have 12kg springs all around which I think is part of the issue. The car is composed very well on a road course but during auto-x its not so much. I have a 10kg springs for the rear coming and I'll see how that works, I also have a new front sway bar set up that's going on.

The oversteer issue I am having has popped due to the increased stiffness the rollbar. My plan to remedy this is simple, soften the rear and and stiffen the front. I put on 10kg springs in the rear (previously 12kg springs), if this is not enough ill drop it again to 8kg. For the front i have a stiffer 30.4mm sway bar and adjustable endlinks as well as a sway bar mount brace, this hasn't been put on just yet.

do you need a cage for lime rock? i have auto-x a lot at local events but i really want to get on a track.

Nope, it's not mandatory, I just like the added protection that the rollbar, harnesses and seats afford me.
