Mounting Camcorders?
 

Any of you guys figured out a slick and stable way to mount a camcorder inside a stock FD interior. Gonna do Sebring and Road Atlanta over the next couple of months and would like to videotape it if possible.........

Sorry, the mount I have works on roll bars.. You might be able to fabricate something that fits between the rear shock towers, but I don't know of anything prebuilt for this.

Where do you get the rollbar mounts anyway? I'm thinking I could fabricate something like you said but would still need that mount.

Also, do they make special mounts with dampening devices of some sort? I'm thinking that without it that camera would be getting a lot of vibration, etc. if mounted directly to the frame.

I got my camera mount from IOPort Racing.

Although it has a polyurethane bushing and my Sony camera has movement stablization built in my movies turn out with a lot of vibration on rough courses.

it's recommended that if you have a camera with the vibration thing to turn that feature off. i've got a cheap video cam and the footage looks as good as much more $$$$ units.

I vote for IO Port also.

Ditto on the ioport. I just cut up an innertube and wrapped it around the rear STB with some electrical tape to protect the STB and proveide some additional dampening.

assuming you have a passenger seat, there's someone who made a camera mount that went onto the passenger seat headrest poles.

I use the IOPort mount as well.. There's a bit of vibration, but IMHO, totally liveable. I use a cheap JVC VHS camcorder..

Great Video...........gave me a blue steel woodie.........can't wait for Sebring next month and Road Atlanta the next.

Was visiting relatives in Santa Rosa this past summer and saw Sears Point and would LOVE to drive that track. Oh well, some day.

The quality of your video is just fine with me and I'm glad to know mine should be about the same quality. That's all I'm really looking for.

just an idea, but here goes, first buy a small CID "lipstick camera" these cameras run on 12v and cost under 100 bucks. then run the rca cable to a 12v mobile VCR also under 100 bucks.
cheeper and safer thn a $800 camera or an old 15lb rca camcorder.....

I'm definitely gonna fab something and mount it to the rear strut bar..........should be pretty simple...........betcha I can do it for less than $25 at home depot..........I can use an old tripod camera mount to start with...........

Just make it sturdy, the last thing you want is that camera coming loose and hiting you or your windshield..

It'll be built like a brick craphouse, for sure.........just found an old camera mount that I use to use for an SLR camera of mine...........It's solid steel and very heavy.......will work like a charm..........

The only thing I don't know yet is what type of clamping device I'll fab with the home depot parts to clamp on to the square strut bar.

Btw, your video was so good..........at what level do you have it mounted...........I'll undoubtedly have it in the center but I was just thinking the rearview mirror will be in the way a little if I put it at eye level..........maybe a little lower will do the trick...............

I thought about doing my own. Simple enough. But the IO Port mount has a vibration damper built in that I thought might be worth the $$$. I found similar dampers sold seperately online but they were about as much as the whole mount from IO. And judging from the quality of my video and those I've seen from others using the mount it works quite well.

As far as cameras go I'm acutally in the market myself. Just saw a Samsung Hi-8 at Sears this weekend for $150. Should be able to get an open-box deal from a major retailer for around $100 after the holidays.;)

Heh, thats what I'm doing. I bought a 12V vcr from www.partsexpress.com. It was cheap. Now I just need an appropriate camera. Could be a good learning tool as well. Think about it. You could mount it in the wheel well (suspension cam) etc....:cool: :D :cool:
