Metric thread eye bolts for FD
 

Does anyone know where I can order metric threaded eye bolts? Pegasus Racing only sells SAE.

You mean eye bolts like for a clip in seatbelt or do you mean rod ends like on the suspension?

Yes, for clipping a harness to. I have SAE and they don't seem to fit. I called Racer Wholesale and they don't have them. They told me to check with a hardware store, but the problem is I don't know what exact size I need.

Grainer seems to have a few but again I don't know what exact size.

If you are using the threaded holes for the OE belts it should be a standard thread. I'm sure it's something to do with being DOT compliant. I got a set of standard thread eye bolts with Simpson harnesses and they worked fine. Sorry, I don't know what the thread size was though.

Thanks Mark. However, did the bolts work with ONLY your passenger side seatbelt mount or did it work with the railing mount for the seat itself? On the driver's side I used the rail mounts, but the eye bolts were given to me by someone else and I have no specifics on them.

I have not done it first hand but have had several tell me that the stock bolts are the same thread as the generic eyes you get for seatbelts just as Arcwelder says. I know somewhere I have in fact seen a pic of them screwed in in place of the factory bolts but don't recall where.

Your hand me downs must be some weird thing, the Racer Parts Wholesale pieces should fit.

Be sure you are using forged eyebolts! These are purpose built for harnesses and you cannot just find them at the hardware store!

Now I understand. The rail mount bolts are metric, the seatbelt bolts standard. You must be looking for a way to attach your "anti-submarine" harness to the floor, not attach your lap belt. I can't remember the size of the metric bolt, but it was a fine thread, I should really write this stuff down to remember.

The purpose of the anti-sub belt is to hold the lap belt in place during an accident and doesn't take the force that the lap belt does. I used longer metric bolts through the rails and angle iron with a hole in it to clip the anti sub belts to. If you can find it, an eye bolt would be easier.

Here's a thought on this one. If you don't know what size or thread count your bolt is, take it to any hardware store and check it on their little bolt-sizing cards. I know the Home Depot and Lowes around here have a board with nuts of different sizes attached so you can thread your bolt in and see where it fits.
If you have a hole , like your belt hole, you can go buy a few bolts of different sizes for a buck or two, bring them back to the car, and see which fits. Then you'll know what size it is and can get your grade 8 or hardened ghardware from wherever.
