Hope they get it to run consistently there still a long way from the six cylinders. Good luck to them and nice to see a rotary represented in the pro rearwheel drive catagory.

The motor combo seems to be there now.... so this is cool, but still looking at some chassis and clutch tuning to stay up there. The team knows the car has 6:40s in it once they can get the complete package dialed.

At the moment, it's very difficult for the Flaco Racing team being the only PRO-RWD rotary powered car trying to run the entire NHRA schedule, and this year with the added pressure of no major sponsor yet. K&N unfortunately has stepped away from their motorsports efforts, and the team is running without a primary sponsor at the moment. Money is tight, and testing has been very minimal.

Please step by and say hi to Abel and the Flaco Racing team when the NHRA Summit Import Racing Series comes to a town near you!!

I hate to be an ass but that car has not shown the potential to run 6.40 the MPH is just not there :(

BUMBLEBEE7 04-19-05 10:48 PM

you are right about that, but we need to give TEAM FLACO a chance and support

That why I said when they get the complete package together. So more power, which can be made once a few of the weekness now identified, are dialed in. The chassis is working good. You are true at the moment, but they also said that the Flaco Racig Team would never run a 6 with their previous FD. Flaco, and a lot of the other top Rotary drag racers out there, have been proving folks wrong for a long time. Hopefully, this will be the case here... I know I support all these top rotary runners around the globe.

how much more power do they think they can get

All I can say is that there is more left in the combo. Flaco Racing is working with Garrett and a few other key technical sponsors to get the power up where they know they need to be.

problem is the piston guys are progressing just as fast or faster than abel is and they're already 2 tenths quicker than him. titan just ran 217mph on the 2jz and they've already got a new engine program that makes alot more power than the 2jz's that's just waiting to be put in. steph hasn't even leaned on his motor yet, he ran 211 almost 2 years ago and he's still trapping that today. the car's been so consistent, they haven't felt the need to step up the power yet. the scrantons have a new engine program too. this in not mention the vq guys who haven't even come out yet. so to think that abel can just step it up and be competitive again is a bit premature, it's just going to get tougher from here.

true... but the piston boys all have a lot more R&D money and "technology share" to help them out. And it's understood that no one is standing still.....

Flaco being the only regular Rotary running in the top NHRA class, makes it extremely tough, understood... but in the last three races, the RX-8 has stepped up 2 tenths... so it's tough yes, and the team knows they are behind the eight-ball, but the car is coming along. a tenth or two more, and the car will be in the competitive range... funny that we're back to where the rotary engine is the huge underdog again... a place most top rotary competitors in any race series know well. The 787B is a great example! And, no one has said that 4-rotors might not fix the power problem ;)

I think that the 3rotors can run with the 6cylinder motors but I just don't get NHRA's weight breaks for the 3rotor. I mean what do they consider the output of the motor to be I know they don't consider it as a 2.0L motor. Do they see it as a 4.0L motor because they do the same with the 2rotor being 1.3L and saying it displaces 2.6L which is a crock of shit. 150lbs weight break isn't much when you are comparing a 2.0L rotary to a 3.5L V6. NHRA talks about making things competitive and fair but I just don't see it. And where are all these Puerto Rican racers? You guys need to come out and represent the rotarys. I know that comment is gonna start something. LOL.

fdracer 04-20-05 06:22 PM

personally i wouldn't give any weight breaks to the rotaries. i'd just lump the 2 rotors w/ the 4 cyl. and the 3 rotors w/ the 6 cyl. and just make them weight whatever the 4 and 6 cyl. cars weigh. i hate it when the nhra dicks around with the rules to try and make the slower cars competitive. let the rotaries race straight up, if we can compete then great, if we can't then change or develop your combination some more.
