Mazda Comp Brake Ducts
 

I have a set of Mazda Comp brakes ducts which I want to put on for track days. They fit on, but then the opening is pointing almost up and it looks like the ducting will interfere with the tire in anything but a minor turn.

Anyone else with the same experience?
What did you do?
Can you take a photo of your brake ducts so I can see what it should look like?

All the setups I've seen run the ducting to the end of the control arm before going forward. That way the tire won't hit the duct.

I have the same Mazda ducts on an ITA road race car. The ducts work great on a road race car. If you need to turn the steering wheel on the race track more than the ducts will allow your in deep $hit anyway. While road racing it does not take all that much steering wheel input to control the car as compared to the street turning required.

Can't take a photo because I am building a new car & everything is apart & on the garage floor. Have you modified the caliper plate to allow the ducts fit ? If you have the fender inner liner (plastic $hit) in place the hose and all most likely will not fit. With the fender liner removed the 3 inch hose will travel from the open end of the duct up & forward to the steel wall between the wheel well & the motor bay. Use a tie wrap around the 3 inch hose to the brake line mounting bracket. Then up kind of high have the 3 inch hose travel forward & come back down to the lower part of the valance or under the valance. On the 1984/1985 the valance has loovers at eah side of the valance for air to be directed through some $hity tin metal to direct air tyowards the rotors. If you have a 1984/1985 buy a 3 inch plastic duct from a race shop. Mount the duct behind the loovers & attach the 3inch hose to the duct.

When you're done triming your caliper brackets will look like this. I have the directions here but my scanner is not working for some reason.

1. Remove caliper bracket from strut assembly. Save fasteners.
2.Locate the spot welds on the dust shield.
3. Drill out the spot welds with a 1/4" drill bit. Just go deep enough to allow the dust cover to seperate from the caliper bracket.
4.Cut out the template fron this instruction sheet and place it on the capliper bracket. Use a magic market or scribe to trace a line around the templit.
5.Remove material as indicated. Trim the caliper bracked with a hacksaw and/or grinder. FInish sressing any sharp edges by hand with a file. For a proper race apperence, paint the calipoer bracke and allow it to dry before reinstalling.

Looks like I'm not done either. I'm not finished triming. First time I've read the instructions. The parts are still in the box. I had the caliper brackets powder coated....oh well.
