My friends make fun of me but I change transmission and rear end after every race weekend. I'm pretty hard on the equipment. The motor I change almost every weekend as well. This is on a race ported 12a putting some serious numbers down.
I use Amsoil products. For track use any of the top synthetic brands will do. Stick with Amsoil, Motul, Indenso, Royal Purple, Redline, Mobil One and you will be fine. They all make a GL-4 gear lube for the tranny and a GL-5 for the diff. FWIW many racers also use dyno oil, so whatever works for your budget. A recent SCCA national champion ran Wal-Mart brand 20/50, so there you go! |
There is no one set schedule to do, it all depends on how you run the car. For example me I daily drive my car, and in the summer time, almost every month I do oil changes, hit the winter time and its about every 3 months or so.

if you're looking for a schedule/program you could start with the factory 30k service. just do the inspection part of it.
oil should get changed each event. trans an diff depend. if you use good oil and its not super hot, you could probably do 3 weekends, 2 is more realistic, but you'll have to look at the oil to see. brakes, its good if you bleed em before each weekend. the air/fuel filters and spark plugs probably halfway thru a season, or maybe a year. the radiator should have water in it, so before you put the car away for the winter it should get drained and filled with coolant. after a season or so you'll know what to check/look for |

Oh and any recomendations for grade of oil and type of motor oil? (dino vs syn) Im assuming redline will work for tran/diff?

if you're still running the metering pump, you wanna run a non synthetic, as the oil injected into the engine should be either TCW3 or non synth. if you're premixing, then by all means run synthetic either in a 20w-50 or a straight 30wt or 40wt. |
Here are the maint intervals we follow on our IT and E Production Rx7's. We have been racing rotaries for over 10 years following these procedures with great success.
Oil and Filter changed after 8 heat cycles (usually two race weekends) We use 20-50W racing oil. Usually Mobile One or Amsoil. We have also used Valvoline Racing oil (minerial) with good results as well. We use Mazda OE filters. Rearend and Trans grease - once a season. We user Amsoil 75/150 only in both the rearend and trans. If we have to service something in the driveline we change the fluid but normally we run the same stuff for the entire season. The fluid that comes out isn't burnt or even very dirty so I can't see the value in more frequent fluid changes. That said, driveline parts are expensive. Brakes bled before every race weekend We use Motul, AP and Wilwood 600...all work great. I have run Ford Heavy Duty Dot 3 in my IT car and it worked fine...that stuff is sooo cheap too. Water/Rust inhibitor or water and 20% antifreeze in the radiator. I hate to run straight water with a bi-metalic engine. Also it can get cold in the early and late parts of our season so straight water is not a good idea. Wheel Bearings We service them regularly - generally twice a season because they take a hell of a beating. We use Amsoil racing grease only |
