Lost Ring Gear at Track Day

Well I spent the day yesterday on a road race course, it was great. I parked after the last heat then went to start my car and the ring gear on the flywheel came off.

Has this happened to anyone else?
thoughts on why it happened?
What to do to fix it?

Thanks

I know some honda guys this has happened to.
usually on a stock but lightened flywheel.
you can weld the ring to the flywheel if need be, just 3 or 4 spots will do.

or run a "better" flywheel if yours was just stock.

possibly your starter is touching the gear a bit? heating it up a lot? any wear marks?

i had a ring gear come off of my second gen, we heated it up in the oven at like 400 degrees for 30 minutes, then sliped it on the flywheel. let it cool down, and it hasent come off since.... hard to belive, but thats what i was told to do from some reputable V8 guys...

Hey thanks for the feedback,
I will give the over trick a try this weekend when I pull out the engine.

Oh ya, I will probally weld it in a couple spots too!

i wouldent do that, unless you have a way to get it perfectly ballanced after welding it, i wouldent weld it. when a flywheel spins at 9,000 RPMs, it is very criticle that it be in perfect ballance.

that is the most common method of putting on ring gears, i've done a few on new flywheels at work.just heat them with the gas torch until they have expanded enough to slip onto the flywheel then drop them onto the flywheel and let them cool off.
