Looking into auto x, any help would be great!
I'm in SoCal and looking to get into auto x or track but somewhat hard to find detail information on them.
I want to stay away from racing on the canyons because it's dangerous (to other drivers) and now a days in LA, cops are all over those canyons (almost got pull over ON the canyon... Lucky I got away). Want to move to the next level and in a close environment. Any input would be helpful =) BTW, I'm in LA county. |
Try the regional forums. A guy in your area can point you in the right direction.

For track experience, go to:
http://www.nasaforums.com/ They have a Norcal and Socal forum. I'm betting they'd know the regional autocross stuff as well. |

http://socal.drivenasa.com/index.php?categoryid=5 http://www.nasa-tt.com/ I couldn't find any SoCal AutoX with NASA but I beleive open track requires a race license? $85 for SoCal dues + SCCA http://www.calclub.com/ You missed the 1st practice last sat & 1st race last sun http://www.calclub.com/maincalendar2007js.htm http://www.solo2.com/ |
...Oh, or you could also just do/buy a points card $30 which gives you the same discouint as SCCA (-$15) for each event $40/event. If you pick a number, then you will have to label the car yourself with either magnet numbers, prinout you tape on or some guys use painters tape.

Can someone please tell me about the numbers? I picked out a permanent number so I guess i'm supposed to provide it myself now. Can I just print it out like they do? If so, what size font and what else has to be on the paper? If not, will they print it at the event (doubt it)? I found a place for magnetic numbers (not shure where you guys buy them) but I don't know what size and what else I have to put on the door (like the class i'm in)?

Those are good prices but only two numbers and I need three. Has anyone ordered from Solo Time before? :balls:

The numbers are hardly a big deal. Just check with your local region to make sure they are sufficiently large.
I have never heard of someone buying numbers and them being junk. It's the ones cut from craft-store magnetic sheet that sometimes give people trouble. So get them however you find it most convenient. Dave |
The info is on the SCCA.org website somewhere, I found it using Google:
This is from the 2006 Solo Rulebook: All vehicles must display numbers and class letters on both sides, which must be readable by Timing & Scoring, Course, and Grid workers at all times. Numbers must be a minimum of 8" high with a 1.25" stroke. Class letters must be a minimum of 4" high with a 0.75" stroke. In all cases, the height of the class letters must be between 25% and 75% of the height of the numbers. Stroke width must be at least 10% of the height. Numbers and class letters should be positioned next to each other. All letters and numbers must be on body panels, not on windows. All numbers and class letters must use the same typeface and the same color, and this color must provide adequate contrast to the background color. A friend made me some number plates using a big white sheet of magnetic material for the background with black stickers on it (he's got a plotter for cutting stickers). It turned out real nice, but I don't have any photos with me at the moment. -s- |
