Looking for a Downing/MazdaSpeed RX7 body

Looking to find an IMSA GTS-2 body, not sure if its still in the MazdaSpeed catalog but the part # is/was:

K-RX7F-95-000

Originally degined and molds built around 96 by Jim Downings Downing Composites in Atlanta, not sure how many were ever sold, hoping there is something out there or MazdaSpeed will still build one.

Last I checked, it was still active in Mazda Motorsports and it shows it ships from Atlanta... so I assume he is still making them for Mazda.

I have not been active with MazdaComp/MazdaSpeed etc for a few years so i have no log-in to check price etc. Guess I wil need to sign back up ans maybe give Motorsports a call directly.

With luck it will be somewhere near what Der Haag gets for a Vette or Camaro body!

jgrewe 08-01-10 09:11 PM

Just discounted to $7K !

I just looked up the part on mazdaspeed motorsports development...

GTU BODY PNL KIT-RX7
Part No : K-RX7F-95-000
The regular price is $9,839.00
The sale price is $7,028.00

Could be worse...A competitor of mine is in the process of installing a Quaife sequential six speed into his NSX. He had to sell both his children to finance the deal.

Back when we had the SuperTouring class in the US I was working on a deal to bring a Xedos 6 from the BTCC. Car was going to cost me $45K(no longer allowed in the BTCC at the time, ex factory car). The price of the 6 speed sequential in the car if I wanted to build my own current car... $42K from Xtrac.

Ok so twice what Der Haag wants for a FG body and about what they are getting for a carbon one. Still not that bad, would have to run exact numbers but my guess is it will cost me about the same to buy this as it would to cut up a roller, install FG bits, and then cut more and more to getg down to fighting weight.

Is he really? He is easily the fastest car out there already...

Hey Gracer,

Yeah, Kip is running on the National schedule in STO this year. He wants to win and figures the sequential six speed is worth 1.5-2 seconds a lap. It's going to take a lot of shifting to bring the price point of that box down!
