Little racing vid

I bought a video converter and got to playing with it and whipped up a montage of a race last year at Gingerman. Background is that I qualified 4th in class, 5th overall (the little 3/4 scale car is a Baby Grand). Got a demon start then pissed it away a couple laps later. What ensued was an epic battle with a 240Z. After about 10 laps of me hounding him he finally made a mistake and slid off the track, which you'll see right at the end of the vid. Another point of interest. When you see the Z car get real sideways...we are both sliding through oil dumped on the track when a Neon holed it's crankcase. NASCAR throws a caution and goes out there with oil dry. Roadracers get a red and yellow flag waved at them to tell them the track might be slippery ahead...after you've already driven through it the last two laps. :D

wow sick vid...is that fb near stock? or are the other cars just more modded. Your car looked fairly underpowered on the straights.

C. Ludwig 12-22-04 07:11 AM

It's an FC. Underpowered yes. And wrong gear yes. The motor was pulled after that race. The gear is what killed the car on that track. Gingerman is a slow track. With the 4.10 in the car it's a 2nd-3rd gear track. The RPM drop between those two gears is too great. Without the music you can hear it falling on it's face with that shift. That weekend was one of my worst at any track. The car pushed in and was loose off and as you noticed we were overpowered/out-geared. But running the Z car was good fun! :D

n/a I'm guessing right? Cool vid! I wish we had a course like that here I would do that in a heart beat!

speedturn 12-22-04 02:43 PM

The best part about road racing is when you are nearly equally matched with another car, and you have to work on him lap after lap, hoping to figure out his patterns and his weakness, and then figure out a way to take him during his weak spots. That was nice video, thanks for sharing it

chris what group you run with MWC or SCCA? either way we were prolly flaggin for ya as we have a flag/free test and tune deal worked out. got a pic of your car?

9's a tricy one as you found out :D

what kind of times were you running in race/qual if you don't mind me asking. I ran a 1:43.xx open track in the car in my avatar.

C. Ludwig 12-28-04 12:35 PM

That was the SCCA race run 7-12, 7-13, 2003. That track is deceptively tricky. Never felt comfortable at all. I'd never been there before so we ran the Friday practice and logged ALOT of laps. By the end of the weekend I'd managed a 1:38.33 (which isn't stellar at all) but was far from consistent and never got a handle on the whole deal.

If you worked grid you won't forget my car! We had an oil control seal finally let go that weekend. Man did the thing smoke at idle. They finally gave me my own little grid spot for Sunday. We were burning about 1.5 quarts of oil per session that weekend!

BMS2004 12-28-04 12:47 PM

ok so i wasn't around back then....you making it up here this summer? you run regionals or nationals?

C. Ludwig 12-28-04 01:22 PM

We run regionals. ITS.

Doubt it. I'll be at Grattan for the spring race most likely though. Money has been real tight the last two years and we haven't made it out much. Hopefully this year we'll be able to do at least 6 weekends. Mostly Mid-Ohio, IRP, Grattan. Look us up!

Eagle7 12-30-04 04:43 PM

Nice video Chris. Looks like you were having a ball. I see Lance and John were in their usual spots (up front). Who was the Z? I don't recognize it.

1:38 with a 4.10 gear? You just wrecked my off-season. I've got more time to find than I thought. I thought I was happy with my 1:41. Hopefully next year will bring a fresh engine and a 5.12/Torsen. Now if I can just learn to drive.

Glad to hear you'll be at Grattan. See you there.

C. Ludwig 12-30-04 05:45 PM

Went back through all the results and it looks like I shorted myself a 1/10. :) Anyway, the Integra actually won on Sunday of that weekend with a quick lap of of 1:36.10. John's quickest was a 1:36.33. Evidently the kid (Nathan Bonneau) works for Realtime and they built the car. It was quick. His dad Ken was driving the black Z car.

Another guy local here in Louisville just picked up a Speedsource car. "It came with the Motec system but it hasn't been installed yet". ARRRRRGGG!!!! It makes a nice companion for his turbo Porsche. Money...

Sweet vid - thanks CL!

May I ask what muffler you are using?

Your webshots webpage says Dynomax Magnum, I assume its the same muffler also known as Ultra Flo Welded?

Thanks

finky 01-01-05 03:10 PM

Hey Chris, I think that that was the race I watched you at. Good video. Defiately post up if you will be at Grattan or G-man. I will try to make it out. Same with you also Marty.

C. Ludwig 01-01-05 04:35 PM

Hey, that's right! Doubt I'll make it back to Gingerman soon. But Grattan is always at the top of my list. I'll make sure to keep you up to date.
