What are the options for wider lightweight race wheels. Apparently CCW is no longer making 16" wheels.

Wider than 16x8? If you're looking for 16x8s to stick on a FC find some used FD rims and you're set. Other than that, well SSR isn't making any wheels at all now so your options are decreasing by the day :(

The stock FD rims are around 13lbs.

I am looking for 11 or 12" width for a prepared car.

How about Panasport? They're still around, and were always lightweight and strong.

I received my intial info from a local tuner who prepared the current SM, SM2 and FP champtionship cars, Vic Sias.

I just spoke with CCW, apparently they are short on 16" rim shells. They will accept orders, but it could be a long wait (months).

If that's the case, then you can check out Kodiak wheels or Bogarts wheels. Kodiaks are actually lighter than the CCW, but you really pay for the difference. I've also read of numerous grievances with their customer service and delivery speed.

Bogarts makes a competitively light wheel. I can't say on how they compare to the rest, but I know Schotz ran Bogarts on his '03 ESP championship car.

And there is the Fikses or Kinesis wheels, if you don't might throwing around some serious coin on your race wheels.

Real racing, like we talked about is your best option, much less expensive, and a much shorter weight than Kodiak. Panasport does not make wheels anywhere near that wide. Your choices are Real, Circle, CCW(relatively heavy), Kodiak, and one other that escapes me are the fairly priced examples. A Real Wheel 16x12 is ~420.00, and weighs 19lbs. Carl

Uh, you sure about that??? My very standard CCW 17x9.5 wheel (i.e. heavy grade 8 fasteners and not-extra lightened wheel center) weighs ~18lbs. If you go with the titanium fasteners and the extra-lightened wheel center, you can shave off another 1-1.5 lbs. I've been told that the same size Kodiak wheel is about 1 lb lighter, or nearly 2 lbs lighter than the wheels that I have. If you have real data comparing the Kodiaks and Real wheels, I'll shut up. ;)

Last time I checked (a LONG time ago), Circle wheels did not have any decent offerings in 16's. And I forgot that neither Fikse nor Kinesis offer 16" sizes. Oops.

Ah, I cannot spell LOL, I meant "wait". The Kodiak wheels are supposed to be lighter, but they removed the weights from their site, so you would have to call. They have actually come down in price, and the Real wheels are up, making them the same price. Still figure ~2 months for the Kodiaks, about half that any time of year but now for the Real. I would probably try the Kodiaks next, the Real were ~150/wheel cheaper when I bought, same price, I'd go Kodiak with a forged center vs spun on the Real. Of course you need acar to put them on first;). Russ, the pics did not work on the EP car that you sent. I'd probably opt for a done race car(EP) vs the street car. I'd get it perfect, and then convert it to turbo( not a difficult swap as such things go). Carl

I bet its probably the remaining bulk from their initial order. . . .

Does anyone know where one can buy rim halves? Would be interesting to make my own centre section and bolt it up to the rim half.

Kodiak, and Real sell the Halve, but I would not suggest trying to do it yourself, there is very little savings, and a possible BIG downside...

Doing it myself just means I can have the design I want. I was thinking of billet centre section 5 spoke. 7050-T7651, anodized black. 16x9 front and rear +28 offset.

I've got access to a CNC mill. And I already did teh cad model and calcs for it. Next step would be to run it through the FEA program at my office without getting caught for not diong real work.
