Lexan all around in an fc???
 

One of the cars needs glass. Wondering if I can get and word from somebody who has replaced all their glass with lexan (windshield excluded). Hard to get a good fitment? How did the rear hatch work out? Just want to hear how this project went down for the people who have done it.

You can bend 1/8 lexan to fit the stock hatch with no problem, just rivet it to the frame. Make a pattern from the OUTSIDE of the stock glass and you will end up with a piece slightly larger that you need. Start to attach it from the middle and trim as needed with a high speed sander/grinder.

You will save 29lbs going from glass to lexan.

I have replaced all my glass with Lexan. It is pretty easy to fit the hatch, as stated above, simply start in the center and move around.

I did not make my side windows to fit into the stock window mechanism, they simply screw into the frame. I use them to tow the car and when it rains.

I would not recommend Lexan or Poly for a street car, simply due to the fact it is really easily scratched. I use a special Lexan spray and micro fiber cloth when I clean my lexan and I still have scratches.

Be sure to run a gasket of foam tape around the lexan and the frame for seal and cushioning.

Any pics of the fitment? And I am worried about scratches. But it's bound to happen. I think I've heard people mention something like lexan, but with a harder surface, so less scratching. I dunno, I could be wrong.

i've heard of lexan windows that you can still use wipers on and not get scratches. Don't know if it's really that good tho.

I think theres a spray on coating too that helps prevent scratching.

There is a form-able mar resistant lexan out there but it is REALLY expensive, like 3 times the cost. Most of the mar resistant surface treatments don't like to bend. I think the term in the industry is "FMR". I looked into it for my fiberglass hatches that I make but it wasn't worth it to most people. Once you make the first one, you have a good pattern to make its replacement.

Removing the stock glass is the hardest part, make sure to follow the advice of jgrewe and make your template first. As to scratch resistant, wishful thinking. I have MR10 (Margard) on the rear, it even has scratches. For the front I use regular polycarbonate/Lexan and change it every once in awhile, $100 and 4 hours of my time is all it takes.

My race-shop guys basically told me I was crazy to do the front glass as lexan and said it wasn't worth the pain unless it was a pro car... I have jgrewe's hatch on mine, but a stock glass windshield...
