Let's get this started! Who's running which class?

I'll be running Solo 2 CSP for a couple of events this summer, just to get Mazda Comp happy, and running Improved Touring next year..

PaulC

SoloIIdrift 07-10-02 12:30 AM

Well I'll be in F-Prepared I believe with the porting, the car might just run in CSP-Novice also because I actually won't be driving the car, I'm just the brains behind the team, although I'm an excellent driver, it's just that I have my hands full driving a Integra to victory in DSP :)

Also the car has no suspension mods at this point, so I don't think the local CSP crowd will mind if we run just two events to get the mazdacomp discount, like you said.

alwan16 07-10-02 12:46 AM

ASP!

Building a Spec RX which will also run in NASA Pro 7.

ASP. With the haltech i think i can raise the idle and not many people will notice. However the Big turbo and front mount might give something away. and the strut tower covers will hide the adjustable caster camber plates, and adjustable coil overs. Gotta keep Mazdacomp hapy. I forgot to turn in my two races last year and they are not happy.

SleepR1 07-10-02 06:15 AM

ASP...I suck ass at autocrossing but I need to cone-race to keep the Mazdaspeed Motorsports Development parts purchasing privelage!

I'm running my 85 GSL-SE in CSP right now...

RB Streetport exhaust system
GC coil-overs
350# front springs, stock rear
tokico Illuminas on all 4
Diamond Racing 13x8" running Hoosier As303's

etc etc etc....

derrick 07-10-02 10:58 AM

Building my 85 GS for NASA Pro7. Just finishing the suspension this weekend... Hope to be at an Open-Track event in September.

Hey Derrick,
Curious what spring rates you are choosing for Pro 7. I assume you are using the Illumina's and running GC coilover conversion in front.

Thanks,
Mark

Yeah, Illumina's all the way around with the GC coilover conv. Since i am just building it now and have little experience tuning a 1st gen suspension setup (for now), i let GC offer their recommendation for spring rates. So i'm running 350# front and 175# rear. Also, GC camber kit and the 1 1/8" front sway bar of course...

With the FD I am running ASP.

When I drive the GTX I run DSP in autocross and PGTS (Street tires) in Rally cross.

finky 07-10-02 01:58 PM

I keep telling the organizers I need to be in different class but they keep putting me in SS. ;)

stinkfist 07-10-02 02:46 PM

Hell Yeah!! finally got our forum!

I crew cheif for an IT7 team. We do pretty well.

I'm also building an IT7 car for myself to drive next year. Have a lot of parts and the car is sitting in my garage striped down to a bare hull.

ES, that's after they boot me out of novice (one more event they'll let me run novice). Of course, if there's only a few entries in ES next time, I'm just classing myself there. I like competition.

christi 07-10-02 10:36 PM

ES #2... for now. I'm not in ladies class either.. for some odd reason, they always seem to try to put me in it :D. I've been with the Panhandle SCCA for almost 2 years, it's great :)

I think when I start semi-modding my car, I'll be bumped up to CSP? I'm not sure.

Barwick 07-10-02 10:59 PM

I'm running ITR (it's a local subset of ITA at Waterford Hills)

ALTurbo2 07-10-02 11:24 PM

BS until I get my Fprep car running and then it's off to ITS. I make it sound like I'll be done next week, but I'll be very lucky to be ready by next year. I was too stuborn to follow Silkworm's advice about buying your first ITS car rather than building it. It's been fun, though.

christi 07-11-02 12:32 AM

ALTurbo2, where abouts do you autox? Do you autox in AL - or come to Pcola's coast?

Hi christi,

I've autocrossed with ALTurbo2 a few times. We race in Birmingham. Its about a 4-5 hour drive to Pensacola for us. I have some relatives there(I was born in Milton) so maybe I'll get down there for the Allied vs. Axis autocross oneday.

I'll be running FP in my 2nd gen.

christi 07-11-02 05:20 PM

What extactly is the Allied vs. Axis? I've been with them for a year and half, and always wondered what that is.

Felix Wankel 07-11-02 06:10 PM

Do some WWII reading, you'll figure it out.

Silkworm 07-11-02 06:17 PM

Yeah, right :)

Axis vs. Allieds.. World War 2.. America, Britain, France vs Germany and Japan..

From what I read in GR motorsports, they divide the classes in two, German and Japanese cars in a class, vs American, British and French..

I loved the pics of the RX7 with the Japanese Imperial flag on it :)

christi 07-11-02 10:25 PM

Felix - I knew that...... from history.. I didn't know what they meant of *racing* terms - sorry for my lack of knowledge.

And thanks, Silk :)

I run out of the Kansas City Region. Yes, I run Nationals. Jeff has looked REALLY fast this year.

Xentrix 07-15-02 10:56 AM

I only do local events but I'm in CSP getting killed by fully gutted crx's. According to the club I'm with if my car was stock it would be in Dstock but with any exhaust mods it is in CSP but all the other Dstock modded cars go to DSP what gives?

89 gxl I/H/E.

Kill No Cone 07-15-02 01:47 PM

I am running CSP for a couple years as I pull the car together, then I would like to race IT. Again, another person sending finish slips to Mazda to pick up cheaper parts.

We have a great local autocross club that really supports novice racers and has a couple track days a year. So, I have been spending my time with this group developing skills (and buying parts).

Hell, who knows what class the Sports Car Communists of America will put me in. Ever hear some of the LAME protests that occur at the regional and national events. I just like to drive and enjoy MY car, set up the way I like, in the manner it was designed to be driven.
FTD will almost always go to some go-cart like contraption anyway so why worry?

I'm here! I'm here! Chased a whole mess of them at the Divisional this weekend. SS was the first run group Sat morning and it was raining; we looked like pigs on ice. Second run was partially wet and the thrid run was dry. I ran the car with three different setups inside of an hour and a half. Man it was a bitch.

I am finally going to take off the (very hard and tired) RS008II's and mount the new Kumhos for the Houston Divisional Aug 10-11. You coming?

This year I'm in SM2, Northwest Region. Should be at divisionals in a couple of weeks.

Last year, my first, I was in ASP in the Atlanta Region:

BRAVO, BROTHER! MY SENTIMENTS EXACTLY...

If you haven't guessed, I'm not a fan of the SCCA organization...I'm not sure if it's the SCCA culture I dislike, or the sheer size and bureacracy of the SCCA...either way...I prefer smaller open-track clubs.

Visit http://www.opentracking.com/ to find out about smaller, friendlier sports car organizations:)

Couldn't agree more!

The SCCA does seem a bit fascist when it comes to turbo rotaries. There aren't any classes where you can run wheel-to-wheel anymore.

And then there's the SOLO II nonsense. I was bumped out of ASP for a larger radiator of all things. This year, I was going to go to divisionals next week, but found out the registration was $55 per entrant. Not bad you say? Well, this event is sponsored by the Tire Rack. You have to wear their "Tire Rack.com" banner on your windshield or your DQ'd. I'd do it if the damn entry fee wasn't so high (usually $20 per event here in the Northwest). What the heck is the Tire Rack sponsing anyway?

I should compete with a "Tire Rack Sucks.com" sticker...

Manny, too bad you guys don't have any events here. I'm hoping NASA will grow (anyone catch the article on NASA in C&D?).

Gene

start your own NASA chapter. call up and talk to the boys at NASA's national office. Ask for Ryan and tell him Tim from RealRide.com racing sent you. they are always looking to start new chapters. problem solved.
