Basically after i get my tranny rebuilt or replaced (it snapped while rolling backwards and launching at about 6k) how should i launch my car? I have 275/40 bfg drag radials and when i did try a few launches on flat land the night before, i could launch at around 7500 with very little wheel spin and a small scratch into second. Is that too hard on the tranny though? Idk im not used to it yet and now i have no tranny hum

woah! 7.5k!! umm no need to do all that.

maybe you 3rd gen guys rock out way harder then us 2nd gen guys,.. but 4.5k is good for me.

wait for a 3rd gen guy that knows how strong your setup is to give a 2nd opinion... but IMO 7k is asking for truff to break.

A drag launch is the toughest thing you'll ever ask of your drivetrain. If you can drop the clutch at 7k and not get wheelspin the only way to reduce the shock loading is to launch at a lower RPM, slip the clutch or use smaller tires. Most serious drag cars with manual boxes use a sintered iron clutch with a centrifugal assist that will slip coming off the line.

So what broke anyway?

I have been running bfg drag radials on my car for about a year now. After almost a year of dropping the clutch from 4500 and half the time bogging or dropping the clutch from 6000 and spinning the shit out of my tires I have finally found the trick. DONT DROP THE CLUTCH. Slipping the clutch starting about 4k and given gas as your slipping to build boost is the ONLY way to go. Once your foot is completely off the clutch it is your job to feather the gas (usually take one or two slight pull backs to gain traction). Once traction is gained, stab the gas and take off. With the bfg drag radials, you rarely break traction again after gaining traction.

That takes out some of the shock out of a redline launch, but that basically makes 1st gear useless.
