Just curious what other 1st gen road race guys run for suspension?
What shocks and spring weights do you use?

It varies a lot depending on the class. Pro-7 guys often used to run something in the 350 front / 175 rear range. On my EP car, after going to a ISC third link and panhard I'm experimenting with much higher rates. Unless you modify the strut tubes, most racers are kinda stuck with adjustable Tokicos as an affordable racing shock. When you are ready to move upmarket there are several options at MANY times the money, like custom valved Bilstiens, and Advanced Design shocks through Ground Control I think. Shocks can make a HUGE difference for advanced drivers, but a small fraction of racers would have any idea how to set them up properly - so plan on a real development program when you get there.

As Boswoj said. The higher spring rate you go, the more critical shocks become. 350 / 175 or so is a good basic setup for use with Tokico's. Anything much higher is going to require true racing shocks.

Do you run modified struts with the Bilstiens, or are they just standard with perches? Do you know the model number of the shock? Thanks - Rick Just doing some more research. |
Yep, Marcus.
They are ISC modified strut housings (standard cartridge inserts, similar to a ground control setup.
