I'm kind of two minds. On the one hand, a lot of it is... like, good solutions for the day but some of it's sort of obsoleted. If I were trying to build an EProd car there's no way I'd expect to win nationally with the grade of dampers he was using back then, for example, and from what I can see modern tires want more spring than he was using. Knowledge about correcting for roll center is a lot easier to come by and most people have heard of the tri-link setup. On the other, it's not my work I'd be posting - I didn't create it, what right do I have to post it?

i'd like to think if you did the research today, you'd arrive at similar conclusions. it is just engineering, math not magic

Agree to both. Maybe he still has the email address, Ill give it a try. It would still be good info in a lot of ways and a good start at an entry hpde or autox car. i cant do a good quick google seach and find what dampers i should run front and rear in a first gen. Its not even extremely easy to find that here. Heck most of the stuff he mentions doesnt even exist anymore. |
There's no good off the shelf options for dampers and there never were. The best that fit without a machine shop were Tokico Illuminas and they weren't good. The least expensive halfway decent option is to bore out the front strut housings for a bigger tube and use Koni 8611s in front, and have Truechoice or someone modify Fox Mustang Konis for double adjustable for the rear... or Bilstein universal motorsports struts and Fox Mustang rear Bilsteins and try to get it all revalved right.

That's what I mean, does everyone know that? Probably not. There are off the shelf double adjustable fox mustang shocks you can run in the rear. There are some kyb agx options also. I don't think anyone talks about starting spring rates. Jim's suggestions aren't bad by any means.
They result in a good handleling car. I haven't read the csp rules lately but I bet his setup is still fairly relevant there. Even though some of it's dated it's still usefull knowledge. |

I can probably do that, I want to try and get permission first so it may be a while.
On that Bilstein universal strut, I was unfamiliar with that one, who's running it and is it worth the coin? Supposedly many Bilsteins are rebuildable anyways so I can revalve what fits to be pretty good. The inverted monotube seems like the jam. |
