ITS,ITA, Pro-7?

i've been looking in to getting in to some sort of race series and ive been looking in to ITS, ITA and was thinking of building a 1st gen, but from what ive heard 1st gens arent that competitive in those types of races? is this true?? does anyone have any info on this? i mean ive looked up quiet a bit of videos on youtube and they seem to be the most cars out there, but then again most of the videos are 2006 or older, or would it be better to just race a 2nd gen?? and i was also looking in to Pro-7 but i cant seem to find the GCR or anytype of rules for them the newest ive been able to find is 2003 which im sure is outdated correct? does this series not exist anymore? or do we just not have it over here in the west? thanks

Ismael

as pointed out in the other thread, pro7 is dead, the cars that are still around are back in ITA, where they were before.

TurboIILover 11-26-08 04:58 PM

ok i see....i was reading the GCR and the minimum weight is 2350 i was wondering is that with driver or the car its self can way any less?

TurboIILover 11-26-08 05:46 PM

also how competitive are they?

Jross427 11-26-08 07:56 PM

the old pro 7 cars are still going strong, up in nor cal there are a good bit of rotaries. one old pro7 car races in pte in nasa on hoosier's and is really fast, also two in ptf, a 1st gen in ita. there are also 2nd gens in gt2 and its, along with bobcats gt2 1st gen. 2nd gens and gsl se's have to race in its where as 1st gens can race in ita, also look into the pt rules for nasa for points and classes

SCCAITS 11-26-08 09:29 PM

1st gens aren't competitive in ITA. 2nd gens are competitive in ITS. 1st gen parts are becoming harder to find. Minimum weight in the GCR is always with driver - that's what you got to weigh when you come off the track and are still in the car.

TurboIILover 11-27-08 01:21 AM

oh i see so u have to account for how much gas u waste..so the minimum has to be with lets say a 1/4 tank of gas not a full tank cuz when u get off the track u might weigh in under...ok ..what about porting?? porting isnt allowed in that ITS correct? only in higher classes like lets say e production?? i've read the GCR but some of it is kinda harder to understand cuz it doesnt seem too detailed you know what i mean??

Ita15 11-27-08 06:32 AM

There is no rotary porting allowed in IT classes. Gains come from open exhaust and ECU work. The important this about reading the GCR is it is based on you can make no changes unless the book says so. If it does not say you can you can’t. First gen ITA cars are not very competitive but they can be had cheap and there s lots of knowledge out there. 2nd gen ITS car are competitive and a very good choice.

TurboIILover 11-27-08 01:01 PM

oh ok i see how much horsepower do 2nd gen ITS cars make??? avg ...?

wrankin 11-30-08 12:09 PM

The exact numbers are "vague" (or at least the owners aren't openly disclosing them ;) ), but it seems that the front runners are making around 175++ rwhp on a stock S5 engine.

This is with a lot of effort and time on the dyno.

wow wheel horsepower?? thats pretty dam good for not porting

TurboIILover 11-30-08 02:11 PM

what kind of tuning is allowed? i know that need to fit in in the stock ecu housing but what do most people use?? or is everyone running carb's?

wrankin 12-03-08 06:11 PM

ECUs are now open. The stock ECU housing rule has been removed. You can also modify/build your own engine harness. SCCA requires NA FC's to run factory fuel injection (and injectors).

As for what ECUs, that varies from stock units to big $$ Motec's and everything in between. IIRC Chris Ludwig sells a tunable stock ECU that's promising, and there's always the Megasquirt.

wait what do u mean by "SCCA requires NA FC's to run factory fuel injection (and injectors)." mine is n/a cuz imma be running in ITS

and as for ecu that means i can use haltech?? sweet hot much does a megasquirt setup usually go for??

TurboIILover 12-03-08 11:10 PM

also can u use safc?? i figure u can start with that for a while till i ca get something nicer

Sorry, should have been more specific - I was talking about NA FCs running in SCCA ITS class. FCs running in Production class have a lot more options than the IT cars in terms of fuel systems.

And by "factory fuel injection" I mean that you have to run stock injectors in their stock locations with stock rails. No mods. Refer to the GCR for more specifics.

As far as I know you can run anything you want. But there is definitely a point of diminishing marginal returns.

As far as a 'squirt, it seems that the raw kits are a couple hundred and fully assembled units can be found for under $500. Once you start adding in accessories, the price rises. Head on over to the ECU forum on this board for the FAQs.

the stock ecu housing rule is still there. the rules are poorly written, but there are two DIFFERENT rules about the ecu.

there is one that says its open, and on the next page it says you can do anything as long as it fits in the stock ecu case.

back in the day, we fit the haltech e6x in the stock case, ive heard of motec and MS fitting too.

the SAFC i think would NOT be legal, as it is OUTSIDE the stock ecu case.

No. The ECU is in fact free. As is the wiring. And there are provisions in the rules to add the necessary sensors to convert to speed density. All stock sensors must remain in place though. It is now completely legal to remove the stock system and replace it with a Haltech, Motec, etc without the need to fit it all in the stock case.

wrankin 12-09-08 01:36 PM

Pertinent sections of the 2009 GCR that cover the new ECU rules in IT are 9.1.3.D.1.a.[6&7].
