Incar FD Sedan Super Cup

Hi All
Incar from the United Oil RX7
Had a shocker! Car had wild turn in oversteer and brake issues.
I was trying to conserve the brakes by releasing early, but this made the car run in a bit hot. Didn't help much as the pedal was getting longer and longer. Had complete brake failure at turn 6, pedal went straight to the floor. However I think this was caused by running wide at turn 5 and hitting the ripple strip, the pistons in the caliper rattled back.

Anyway, thats enough of the excuses, here is the evidence :-)

Sweet Vid man! I was watching the bathhurst this past weekend! a lone Fd entered!

Cool video! I wouldn't have thought hitting the rumbles would knock the piston and pad back enough that you'd have no brakes.

Last season I was fighting an inconsistent brake pedal in my EP racecar and discovered I'd burned out just about every piece of rubber in the front calipers. During the season, if I hit the rumbles or drove off track, I'd still have brakes at the end of the straight but the pedal would be closer to the floor than usual. I replaced the calipers before the first race of 2013 and now everything's perfect.

Great footage as always... what was the cause of the oversteer and brake issues? Did you upgrade your brake set-up? Think you were talking about doing that last year?

Interesting.
I have never had this problem before, it is only now that i'm running Slicks.
I'm told the the front spindle/bearing flexesand that causes the problem

I think most of the oversteer is a combination of a few thinks but most obvious is the lack of rear downforce. We have lowered the front bumper, it was 140mm of the ground with no undertray, now its 55mm with a large undertray. This has created so much more front downforce that the rear is now unbalanced.

Also, these tyres are old and with a air temperature of 110 deg F that track temps were massive.

I have the new brakes but they arn't ready to be fitted yet, we are still waiting for the caliper mounting bones

Nice video.....i want that gear box :egrin:
Tires and downforce are the two biggest improvements i've made to my car, wing and front splitter.....rear difuser is ready to install for this coming spring.
What engine configuration are you running?

Its a great gearbox!

I have to fit a larger rear wing before we run it again

Very interesting video. I liked how you had the car well balanced on the brakes going into Turn 1. Strange that pad knock back would cause that much of an issue. My only real concern was the terrible yellow flag discipline being shown by some of the competitors. What was done to those guys by the race organizers as I saw that you had to pass them under green flag conditions afterwards.

Up here, those guys would have seen a black flag immediately or at least received a move to the back of the pack after the race. I find it pretty concerning that they would ignore Pace Car global standards and not just one or two but a lot of cars.

Is this normal down below now? When I went to Aus in 1992/1993 the events were run very tight and under control.

Hi Eric
Yeah, brakes are a issue, but will be sorted for the next round.
True, the yellow flag discipline was terrible, not sure what those guys were thinking!. Funny thing is, if I had only stayed on the track I would have one the race as everyone infront of me was penalised. The Blue 997 GT3 ended up winning, he's the one I passed on the restart!

Glad to hear that. Aus racing was always taken very seriously when I used to travel to accounts in the Australian Auto Industry back in the 90's.

On a side note, Perth is one of my favourite cities on the planet. I loved the Seafood restaurant on the Swan River that we used to go to as it was just hung out over the water and you could see the boats bringing the fish in. Freemantle is just a really really great place to see. Some of the best beaches in the world. I really used to like doing the work we did with the Orbital Engine Group, as it was always the best part of my Asian/ Pacific swings.

There you go and make me all depressed thinking about all the great stuff in your area and me all stuck in snow.....

Oh wow, good to hear you like Perth. It has changed a lot over the last 15 years. Fremantle is still a great place to visit for Fish and Chips on a hot summers night. The Perth city swan river foreshore is about to get a major up grade with the Elizebeth Quay
Perth's $440m Waterfront plan revealed | Latest Business & Australian Stock market News | Perth Now

I use to visit Orbital Engines in Balcatta back in the day when I worked for a Major Oil Company

Beaches are still very nice, however we are having a few to many shark attacks at the moment.

You have snow hey, I would love to see that. We had 110 Deg F today and it rained, currently 9.30pm and its 95 deg F

Well I also have a little closer relationship to Perth. My wife lived there for about 2 years back when she was in her early teens. They had a place in Booragoon and on my first trip there I had my boss take a picture of me in front of her old house and another on the beach on the north side of the Swan River outlet by the Fuel Tanks, just like another picture of her.

Great city, Orbital was doing some crazy stuff back then that had some neat aspects but basic theory issues, but the people were fun to deal with. Oh yeah the restaurant was called the Red Herring.

Cheers.

Eric
