Ideas on connecting cage to front strut
https://www.rx7club.com/forum/attach...postid=2668244
How do you guys think I should weld the cage on there? Just one connection to back with a reinforcing plate? Just give me some idea as I am working on finishing the design so I can take it down to shop and get the cage done in next couple of weeks. Thanks |
What class?
|
Oh yeah I forgot about that. This might be crazy, but when I started the car I was planning for GT classes, so there are some stuff on the car that probably won't make it anything under GT. So for now it will be GTM or GTO or GTS.
I think most of the issues I will have with classing is the front subframe and suspension being from 2ND gen which puts me in GT. |
If you're running a GT class, thats a 100% for sure I'd be triangulating from the A pillar and dash bar out to the strut towers.

Thanks mate,
You have any pictures of such a setup? |
I ran bracing from my roll cage uprights to the back of the struts. I also built a triangle bolt in brace which came from the strut towers and met right where the stock hood latch went. I basically have a 8"by 2" section of 1/8" flat iron there for a mount. If I did it again I'd probably make the mount larger and see if there was some way to further brace the top center of the firewall. ASCII art below:
Firewall .....__ ....../\ ..../....\ .../.......\ O--------O Strut towers are "O's" -Trent |
That's very similar to what I was thinking.
Strut towers straight back to the front down tubes. Then triangulate it to the middle of the firewall. |
oh I see. So someting similar to the tower brace from racing beat. Cool
Thanks guys |

Exactly. Run it back from the strut tower to the a-pillar bar, and a diagnoal back to the firewall.
Sorry, no pics offhand. PaulC |

Hey that's my car! BTW what you can't see in that pic is that there is a third bar running from the bend/intersection point down to the forward leg of the cage inside the car. let me know if you want some more pics.

Great pictures and great car, I would like to see some more pictures of your car and the cage. Cheers, Omid |
If anyone wants to host the rest let me know and I'll shoot them out. The one above is pretty old, I think it was just after the 2001 runoffs and the car is slightly different now. The basic structure is the same though. BTW it's also for sale.

Send them to me, I can host it on my site:

sounds good to me! try it maybe make a tube and bolt it to the fire wall. try not to weld it so that it will be removeable. know what i mean? i wouldnt make it permanant so that it case it wasnt legal for your class or a later engine swap. NE ways thats my two cent's
