Ideal Gas Pedal Height?

I'm mounting a new gas pedal in my FD which necessitates a spacer between the pedal and the firewall. I was wondering what benefits I might see to changing the position of the gas pedal. The stock height (somewhat misleading, since I'm speaking horizontal distance) puts the gas pedal exactly 1 inch behind the brake pedal. Someone else I talked to said they put their pedal a bit FORWARD of the brake pedal, and it actually helps with heel-toeing.

Thanks in advance for your input.

I like it a little above the brake pedal when I'm on the brake pedal hard. For the reason you mentioned. So if its even with the brake pedal at rest it should be perfect for me to drive at Sebring:naughty: (I'm in St Pete Bch)

It should be wherever is comfortable for you to be able to drive the way you want to. I'm not sure there's a single ideal.

I personally can't imagine how putting the gas FORWARD of the brake would work. When you step on the brake it'll go down, and then how are you going to get your foot up to the gas without lifting off the brake?? My gas pedal is below the brake even AFTER I've stepped on the brake!

BUT, that's me. Your technique may be different.

What pedal do you have Troux? I personally prefer the gas pedal higher since I swing my heel over to the gas rather than "rolling" onto it. I would use a spacer if I could find one. I'd like the pedal around 1/2" higher I think.

I'm using the GTO gas pedal. I also swing rather than just roll. More of a heel-toe than just using the sides of my feet. I'm also using the 929 BMC, so may be comfortable with a higher gas pedal, given less brake travel. I'm going to try putting them all dead even.

I'm interested to see how it turns out, if you don't mind snapping a few photos when you're done.

An easy way to experiment for you is to use an aftermarket pedal cover kit. They are generally add 1/4 - 1/2".

^I do happen to have a Momo pedal cover. Wasn't gonna put it up for sale, figuring nobody would want it, but I definitely won't need it.
