I wanna pics of your race cars.

We are working on a first gen SCCA soloII race car. I wanna see what everyones car looks like and what size letters and numbers you are running. Also any other imortant information you think I might need. I am plaining on running 20" numbers and 8" letters

Zyrano 08-01-07 12:41 AM

Nick, If you are running SCCA events, and plan on doing national tour events, they have very specific rules about the size of the letters as well as the numbers themselves if you have multiple drivers. So check the rule book before you buy or make anything. Personally, 20" is too big in my opinion, something 8-12" should be fine for the numbers, depending on the purpose of the car (whether it will ever be street driven), I'd also consider magnetic numbers. Driving a fully decaled racecar on the street is just asking for attention...

...the wrong type of attention.

One of the racers here does that. His race car is street legal and he drives it fully decalled on the street, no problems at all. He's 60 years old though, but his son who is in his mid 20's early 30's does it too.

Anyway, here's our car:

Yea i thought 20 was to big to but falls in line with the rules. But this is why we are asking sizes other racers use. Letters will be magnet as we are still unsure what class we will be running. My 7 is not a DD more like a weekend car once or twice a month. In fact its been almost a month since I have even started it.

Zyrano 08-01-07 10:21 AM

Well, here are mine, they are all magnets, and the numbers are 8" and letters are 4"

Ok i like the 8 and 4" looks real good what is the stoke on the numbers and letters?

Zyrano 08-01-07 08:05 PM

If I remember right, the strokes are part of the rules too, mine are to rules, I think it is 1.25" stroke. I'll try to measure them tomorrow

nick812 08-01-07 08:14 PM

yea thats the minimum size seams a bit bigger than 1.25

Having worked as a worker at events for awhile the biggest baddest numbers you can put on your car that are visible from 2 counties away will be greatly appreciated. Also consider that many corner workers are older and have poor eyesight. *grin*

I agree, the biggest numbers you can find are the best choice

nick812 08-02-07 03:25 PM

Yea i dont have the best eye sight either the reason for my first thought of 20" and 8" tento what size and stroke is yours? I am also plaining on putting smaller numbers on the back and front also but no class letters. I havent seen anaything that says you cant do it.

Though my car is a dedicated autox car, I still use magnetics. They are cheap, easy to make or change. Eventually I will have the car painted with all the appropriate (Mazda), decals attached. I agree that a numbered/stickered car is asking for attention you may not want. My avatar shows what I use. Good luck.
