i wanna go drifting again...but in my own car...HELP!!
 

I want to get some info on rx7s for drifting can anyone help me with a good platform? i am thinking 1st gen nice and light, and i like that body style + its in my price range i think...HAHAH!!well any help would be great!

BTW: 2nd gens are great drift cars since they are so much cheaper to fix as well as cost. I truly wish I had one, going sideways in my FD is always a bit iffy. I can never really have fun since I can't push it like I would a FC. Also, tires for a FD seem to be freaken expensive, I can never find enuf bolo head tires for free from costco or sam's club.

kewl now i am thinking of getting a turbo application...but do they make a tt or a single application ?? and whats the fd fc deal about? is that the dif model names? and yes ive seen InitialD and still didnt get it from that...trying to increase my knowledge of rx7s

2nd generation cars are from the year 86-91 (can't remember if ther was a 92) the TII models were twin turbo and not single, but if you are talking about going single you can do it, I think there is a part of the forum devoted to single turbo applications. As far as the FB FC and FD goes, those letters are part of the VIN and identify the generation.

FC=2nd
FD=3rd

Initial D is so cool, I heard it was coming to the states, I think they are changing the names of the characters.

I'd imagine an FC would make a better drift car. It has a better steering system (let's face it, the 1st-gen steering is typically crap, very rarely will you find a car with a decent box) and the rear suspension on the FC is better for sliding since the roll center is much lower. Much more predictable.

damn skunks you can afford a 3rd gen<especially in HI> and cant afford new drift tires. No point in mounting busted ass tires, most dont come in pairs, even though they are free. Oh yeah back to the drift thing, go FC. FDs are too expensive to be slamming around. FB rear stinks, no aftermarket lsd either. Getting a NA FC to drift is a little more work. Most have worn out LSDs, if they have them at all. THe weak powerband also makes it more difficult. Get a TII. You also need to get rid of the DTSS or whatever the rearstear is called. IF you do get a NA FC you are going to need alot money swapping to the TII driveline, as Im learing. THe stock NA LSD, and tranny/clutch suck. They are too weak. Well maybe not the tranny but the LSD is the main reason. Hope this helps. Oh also today I faired well at driftsession. Maybe Ill change my name to driftingsky instead. =)

Why you want to drift for, sometime when you drift is slower than you attack the turn(or corner). Because you will not know how far you will go and it is dangerous......

For one thing, I can't find any drift rims (crappy rims or tires for that point)! Also, if I had lots of money, I would get a 360 modena :D

Kumho Ecsta 711s and 712s make great drift tires!

No LSD's for the FB? Hello! The diff in the '84-85 rearend is interchangeable with the diff in the N/A FC rear as well as the '94-up Miata rear.

The FB rear can have the rear roll center lowered (throw away the Watts linkage and get a Panhard rod) but I was assuming that the original powster just wanted to buy a ccar and leave it stock. After all, drift cars tend to get crumpled up... if you're not crashing you're not pushing yourself :)

no TIIs are single turbo, FDs are twin turbo

OK there are aftermarket diffs. THe 94-2000 miata lsd fits FC NAs. But as I said youll be greatly disapointed. Lack of horsepower really makes it difficult. Everyone Ive meet who can drift<alex phiffer,battle version> says 86s are the hardest to drift. LACK of power. If you really want to learn you should just get a TII. It is the most cost effective.

didn't read but 3 posts. 2nd gen can drift ok but you will need to eliminate the rear steer bushings. 1st gen can but slow steering. 3rd gen would be great as everything will be newer, better power and response, but far more expensive WHEN you damage something.
