Another addict has joined the group! Welcome!

(now be certain you put money aside every month for the house payment or you'll go broke ;) )

Peter Egan from Road & Track:
"Road racing makes heroin addiction seem like a vegue desire for something salty" Or something like that.

rx7gslse 10-28-03 03:58 PM

The neat thing about racing is that you can ALWAYS spend more than you can afford ;)

yeah, but then you get too uptight about messing up things because you have so much money...

cheap may not be as fast, but it sure is more fun...

Ask some of the $$$$ guys.. especially anyone in a spec class.

Silkworm 10-28-03 06:19 PM

Hey, even in the cheap classes, there's always something to spend money on...

Money dictates speed unfortunately. Skill will only take you as far as your chassis can reach.

Wait til' I take you out for a few laps :D :D :D

Hahahah yea, another addict. Welcome and prepare to spend you kids college fund. :D

TheTwinTurboRX-7 10-28-03 10:27 PM

I too am a 21 year old college student so I know all about it.

neevosh 10-29-03 02:48 AM

Welcome to the club. It's definetaly an expensive hobby. Especially when you have no money.

Cheers! 10-29-03 12:34 PM

i want to find a S5 NA. Rip the interitor out... put in roll cage and seat and go racing... Do nothing to suspension. Just go racing and start replacing stuff when they break.

SleepR1 10-29-03 04:57 PM

Cheers, glad you've joined the "racers' club". I needed another FD racer to take my place :)

Cheers! 10-29-03 06:04 PM

FD? i don't drive a FD. i drive a real rx7. a FC!
:D

851stgen12a 10-29-03 07:02 PM

REAL 7!?!?!?! I drive an FB. much more real....

SleepR1 10-29-03 07:45 PM

Both FB and FC are certainly MORE RELIABLE THAN THE MY POS FD!! :)

Silver Rx8 Base 6-speed on order, Yaw Power Rx8 Specific wheels (9.5 x 18s, 255/40-18s) and suspension already planned

http://www.yawpower.com/wheelpics.html

No serious lapping is intended for the 8, but instructing 3 students at a time will be a plus during drivers eds (I should get a triple discount for being such an efficient instructor LOL :) )

Carl Byck 10-29-03 10:01 PM

Manni, you need an RX6 :D Check my latest thread on this forum, it's fun :)

Cheers! 10-29-03 10:27 PM

Sleep,

i don't understand how your FD is unreliable. Did it leave your stranded in the middle of the highway? failed to start when you had a hot date to go pick up later that night?

Why do people say rx7s are unreliable.
198,000 kms. Orig suspension, turbo, tranny, rear end. Starts up everytime.

I got autox with it, i pound the shit out of the car there and at the lapping day. I got there at 9am and lapped from 9am to 4 pm in teh afternoon. Most of my time was spent lapping.

I never overheated, the Top mount intercooler was colder then i've ever had it. I didn't even get my aux electric fan to come on... i can usualy make it come on for fun laps at autox. BUt with the highspeed during lapping my car was taking less abuse then autox. Except when i spun out into grass and my brakes went mushy after the day.

Cheers! 10-29-03 10:30 PM

also, having no fear means u go faster... ihave fear of smking my car into a wall, so i don't drive at 10/10th the speed i could.

I need a FC NA which i don't really care about.

PaulyDee 10-29-03 11:54 PM

Cheers,

Fd reliability is a relative thing. I have seen FD's go 140K without any major issues, but I have also seen some FD's on a third motor before the 80K mile marker.

It all depends on how you drive it, how you maintain it and how much HP you are trying to get out of it.

FC and FB's are considered more reliable because they are less complex. My FC had many driving schools, auto crosses and drag races without issue. Now that it is full race I get the minor problem here and there. It comes with the territory. The more you want out of something the less reliable it will be.

Glad you made it out to the track. It is an addiction, but well worth the effort and expense.

Cheers! 10-30-03 08:37 AM

i change my oil every 4 weeks.

I have tracked 5 different fds with pretty much 5 different setups and they all got hot. I seriously doubt there is any forced induction car that when driven at 9 or 10 10ths won't overheat without some serious mods.
