2011 25 Hours of Thunderhill with AMG

I will be driving in the 25 Hours of Thunderhill with Atlanta Motorsports Group this weekend, December 3-4. We will be running a slightly modified Mazda MX-5 Cup car in the E2 class. Information about the stellar cast of drivers that I will be teaming with can be seen here. I will be posting on Twitter @racerrx7. Information about the race, live timing and scoring and a live broadcast are available at the above link.

I'll post up the car number and team number when it's available.

This should be a great experience!

yeah the 25 is an experience! we ran it 3 years in a row, and um what other race do you have a COOK on the pit crew?

what other race do you have to bend the frame (with 2 trucks) and have the car run its fastest laptime looking like the attached pic? the duct tape and cardboard are actually holding the car together, and the hole in the window is from a leaf spring shackle, it put a hole in the floor....

i'm excited now, i wanna go! oh and good luck!

Awesome and good luck! I'll be crewing for an NA spec miata again this year. Last year was really tough with a constant drizzle the entire night, but this year is looking pretty good. I'll try to swing by some time and say hello.

PS Please don't rear end our car because it has a trailer hitch. If that gets FUBAR'd, we can't get it home!

I see you found a seat.

I'm crewing for Johnny D Racing for the 6 hour race - next door to Saini's pit #18.

Who else is going?

Yeah...I'll try and stay off your bumper; I don't think my team would be impressed if I hitched my car to yours!

Tim, my crew dude will be heading up for the first few hours. He didn't want to miss 85 cars taking the green flag!

Thanks for the kind wishes everyone. I look forward to seeing you guys...

The No. 102 Mazda Miata of Team Atlanta is leading in the E2 Class.

"My stint was uneventful this morning," Guy Leidig said. "I had to get used to the brake zones because the markers have been knocked down during the race. My job is to keep the seat warm and keep it on the track. The car is running well. The brakes and tires are really good. We are going to put the fast guys in the car and push to the end."

Guy and the AMG team came in 2nd place in their NC chassis Miata behind one of the 949 Racing Miatas. A very tight race.

My team (Johnny D Racing) came in 2nd in E3 in the 6 hour in a NB chassis Miata.

Lots and lots of Mazdas in the field!

How was driving the MX-5 Cup car? Low power, low weight, good handling?

The MX-5 Cup car is a pretty nice ride! Like the earlier Miatas, they are very predictable and easy to toss around. Definitely not a "point and shoot" car like my FD but about 40-50 HP more than a spec Miata.
