how do i get my se to weigh 2,100 lbs
 

i want to get it as light as possible

rip stuff off of it :)

air conditioning system, power steering, ALL emissions stuff (cats, air pump, rats nest, everything), header and full exhaust, rip off mechanical fan and replace with electric, stereo system, complete interior, sound deadening material, replace glass with plexiglass, carbon fiber or fiberglass body parts, HVAC system, dashboard, passenger seat and seatbelt, rear bins, passenger side mirror, antenna, sound deadening tar, just basically start pulling stuff off up to your level of committment, or if you're racing, up to the rules.

Mine weighs 2450 with a roll cage..

Scrap the pass seat, the roll cage, and maybe some creative work with a hole saw, and you'd get down to 2100. But forget driving that shit on the street, your ears would be ringing and your feet would be very very hot.

2100lbs sounds pretty extreme. We got a 87TII down to 2450lbs, no PS, AC, heater, stereo, wipers, drag wheels up front, straight pipe exhaust, light flywheel, small battery, no pass seat, etc.

I know a NA weighs less, but not 350lbs less. You'll have to go for plastic windows, cut the doors out to just the skin, etc...

cf front/rear bumpers, doors, fenders, hood, and rear hatch with lexan windows all around :D

Ripping stuff out is nice too as well as running a small fuel cell (6lbs per gallon of gas!)

oh yeah, you dont really need the battery, just use one to get her started and the alternator can take care of the rest (i have seen quick connects which can be used with full drag cars or other types of race cars)

Full race interior. Sawzall or plasma the doors including the heavy reinforcement bar. Only do this if you are installing other side protection. Remove all sound deadening material. Swap for an aluminum hood or make the stock one's frame hole filled. Fab up an aluminum dash or something small enough to handle just the neccesities. Remove all computers not being used, cruise, etc. and slim down the harness for anything not being used. i.e. radio and speakers

And more and more... When my racecar is engineless I can push it around the shop with one hand while the other steers. I really should get it weighed and corner weighed soon.

is it a 1st gen gsl-SE or a 2nd gen SE?
if is a 1st gen its already at 2450

Well the SoCal Pro7 racers have a minimum weight of 2300lbs *including driver* and I see some of those guys using ballast.

Figure a 180lb driver...........................

I've stripped my interior and the tar under the passenger seat and foot well. I went to the scales last night with the pass seat out and 1/4 tank of gas and came in at 2138 lbs. I really want to get it down to 2100 lbs by the end of summer, that's my streetable goal. No plexiglass, and I'm keeping my dash, it's still pretty. It might take a little grinding but I'm trying.

my 83 stock was 2350, well is 2350

Got this off the SoCal SCCA forum. A Pro7 (1st gen Rx7) driver said:

"As for the weight, my car, fully equipped "as raced," with a full tank of gas, but without me and my personal gear, weighs in at 2090lbs. So even as a heavy guy, weighing 230lbs in the nude, and without wheel weight penalty, I have to add some lead to get the weight up to the required level of 2300lbs, after the race, with 30 minutes worth of gas burned and gone."

Keep in mind that's with a roll cage and a gutted drivers door and light drivers seat.

I had my 1985 GSL (non -SE) weighted at the track with 1/4 of a tank and no driver. 2150lbs...

that's with a rollcage, 5 point racing harness, 13x8 wheels w/215/50/13 tires, window net, fire extinguisher, 12a motor w/weber carb, mindtrain header, stock mechanical fan, no pass seat, stock drivers seat, no side windows or window reg., no sun visors, no A/C system whatsoever, no A/C bracket (heavy piece), no emissions ECU/bracket, no pwrsteering, no interior rug/carpet, no cruise control, smaller battery.

things I did have and can be changed: sunroof was still there, all rear glass and windshield, sound deadening material all intact, complete dash, headliner, radio and 4 speakers, pwr mirrors, No fiber carbon/glass.

I guess we FBs are all around the same weight...
