how do I get invloved in autocross?

hey,

i wanna autocross! I'm 16, live in CT, and I love sports car racing and f1. I've heard lots about auto-x, but rarely do I hear anything about how to get started in it, and more importantly, where there are! I know I probably won't be very competetive, but I just want to go and see what my car can really do.

Anyone have any info?

Check out www.autocross.com (or http://www.autocross.com/autoc/neclub.shtml).

Also look into www.scca.org , they call it Solo II.

Now go have fun!

Tell him you want to start autocrossing. He should be able to give you all the skinny on racing your area. When I lived in Hartford, there was lots of autocrossing in the area.

You don't need anything special added to your car to autox it. It just has to be in reasonably good conition. If you take normal care of it, you should be fine. No special clothing is required to drive an autox. Usually, you don't even have to own a helmet. Most clubs that host an autox have loaners that you can borrow to get you started.

Have fun!

I know Mark Daddio (multitime nat. auto X champion) is from CT. So you could google his name and maybe find out which region he runs with and just go out and try it.

Get a good battery hold down. That is what most noobies get turned away for.

i 2nd the battery hold down suggestion. I'd also suggest making sure you have new brake pads and fresh brake fluid. you certainly won't overheat brake fluid doing an autox, but fresh fluid will give you better pedal feel.

Good luck and have fun.
