to give me proper helmet clearance I cut the floor at the base of the tunnel and flattened the floor(very big hammer), then I cut and welded flat stock to the floor in the areas where the seat is mounted, then filled in the opening from the floor to the tunnel with welded angle metal, and lastly I removed all the original seat mount material and bolted the seat directly to the floor(reinforced areas). this allows me to move the seat towards the center of the car, it also gives me room for the race harness and makes everything alot stronger and more secure. I also removed the stock steering column and mount and installed a stock car type colapsable column that allows me to move the seat back and the steering wheel back so entering and exiting the car is easier. all this was done while building the roll cage, so all the clearances could be checked before it was welded,

remove the stock seat rails and mount the seat directly to the floor. use the 2 raises in the floor where the seat brackets went and just rig something. theres no one way to do it. but yes, also try to get as close to center as possible
